  • Question

  • Hello Friends,

I performed UNINSTALL of .NET framework 4.6.1 from CONTROL PANEL for some testing, Later i tried to reinstall it using

"NDP461-KB3102436-x86-x64-AllOS-ENU.exe" but installer display below error and none of my applications are working now.

".NET Framework 4.6.1 or a later update is already installed on this computer"

Also, Tried to cleanup using  ".NET FRAMEWORK SETUP CLEANUP UTILITY". Still no luck.

  • Dear VK,

    Welcome to the MSDN forum.

Did you uninstall successfully .NET Framework 4.6.1 from Control Panel—Programs and Features, right? It is not appearing under Programs and Features now.

According to the error message, please have a try with the following methods:

    1. Please use the web installer of .NET Framework 4.6.1: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=49981 or Microsoft .NET Framework 4.6.1 Developer Pack and Language Packs: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=49978  to install, see if the same issue will occur or not.

    2. Go to Control Panel—Programs and Features—Installed updates, if there has the update ‘Update for Microsoft Windows (KB3102439)’ which refers to here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-sg/kb/3102436, please uninstall it.

    3. Use the MsiInv tool to gather the applications that Windows Installer thinks are installed on the computer, if find the .NET Framework 4.6.1, use msiexec /x {product_code} to uninstall it, please see here: https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/astebner/2005/10/30/how-to-uninstall-an-application-when-it-does-not-appear-in-addremove-programs/

    4. Check the registry to define the .NET Framework installed version, for .NET Framework 4.6.1, review the subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\NET Framework Setup\NDP\v4\Full, for detail information, see this: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh925568(v=vs.110).aspx. If you find the 4.6.1 already removed from your computer, but it still records in here, you can think of backup the registry table, then modify the Release DWORD to the actual existing version value.

    Best regards,

    Sara

  • Hello Sara,

    Thanks for your reply.

First 3 suggestions didn't help me, from the 4th suggestion i can see v4.6.1 entry in the registry but unable to edit it.

    Error message.

"Cannot Edit Release: Error writing the Value's Contents" .

  • Dear VK,

    Thank you for your update.

The error message indicates the current account have on enough permission to edit it, default the administrator only have the read permission for that keys. You can change the permission by right-click the registry key 'Full' and choose 'Permissions...' to make the administrator obtain enough rights to edit.

BTW, before you backup the registry table before you modify it.

    Best regards,

    Sara
