License terms for pre-release VS TypeScript plug-in RRS feed

  • Question

  • Microsoft has been pushing the new VS TypeScript plug-in through various channels, so we were quite surprised to find the following line in the EULA for the plug-in:

"You may not distribute or deploy any program you develop with the software, except that you may deploy your programs internally to evaluate any deployment technologies that may be contained in the software."

In other words -- here's a neat new tool, now don't use it.  This seems at odds with the press surrounding the release of the plug-in; is the language of the EULA *really* what was intended?  Thanks!

  • I think the article about the license agreement is helpful to you:

  • I pinged a PM about this. It is unclear what "the software" is here and whether it means what you are saying or, for instance, that you can't take the source to typescript itself, modify it, and distribute it as your own product.
