Azure server 2019 - gitlab docker containers unresponsive RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have a bunch of Windows 2019 servers running in Azure with gitlab runners that host docker in docker containers. The gitlab runners run docker-compose up commands to spin up the containers.

Sometimes but not always, the triggering of the docker-compose up correlates with the host 2019 server becoming unresponsive.

When this happens RDP, or remote access to the server network shares fails, and the gitlab runner test jobs time out as they stop working too.

The Azure portal however says the VMs are still running, and the cpu and ram metrics on the portal look to be reporting as running normally.

The only way we can get the server back is to run a restart command from the Azure portal.

We have logged a long running case with Microsoft who said this is due to a bug in server 2019 but I'm not sure if thid is a bug with server 2019 or if its to do with docker or gitlab.

Has anyone come across a similar issue to this?
