  • I'm having problems with my Sunix USB3.0 4-port PCI Express Host Controller with SATA Power Connector (SUN-USB4300NS). I think it has a Renesas uPD720201 chipset.

    http://www.sunix.com/itpd.php?cid=2&kid=5&gid=14&pid=1461

The Kinect device is recognised but I get a "the controller does not have enough resources for this device" error message.

Update: I fixed this problem by moving the USB3.0 Expansion card to a PCIe 16x slot. I previously had it in a PCIe 1x slot.

  • I ordered the ORICO PME-4U USB 3.0 4 Port PCI  on the advice of this thread, and I still can't get the Kinect to work.  I see WDF KinectSensor Interface 0 in my Device Manager, but it has a warning flag and says "This device cannot start. (Code 10)  Current device power state cannot support this request".

Has anyone else had success with this card?

  • I can confirm:

Onboard: ASMedia 104x Controller - Does not work.
PCIe Expansion Card: Transcend TS-PDU3 USB3.0 - Does work.

However, the WPF samples do have a horribly low framerate.

  • Hello!

Hehn, how did you manage to make Kinect work with Transcend card? I bought in Amazon the one that is linked from the first post in this webpage. The Kinect is recognized without any problem (I can see it in the Windows Device Manager),  but when I try to use it with Kinect Studio the device just turn on the 3 red lights in the middle for a second, then turn them off and says "Not enough USB controller resources".

I also tried with the drivers that Transcend provides, but in this case it detects some problems when I connect the kinect.

My motherboard is an Intel Kingsberg DP55KG. Any suggestion?

    best,

    Enzo

  • Hy,

I work on a Acer aspire MC 605 with windows 8.

I have bought a Kinect for windows 2 and a PCI express PEXUSB3S4 to have a USB 3.0 port (http://www.amazon.fr/StarTech-com-Carte-Contr%C3%B4leur-Express-Support/dp/B005HVPYNU).

At first launch, Kinect works well. However, when I turn it off,  the PCI card is disabled and I can not relaunch the Kinect without restart my computer.

Is that problem come from my PCI card or my Kinect?

    Thanks for your answers;

    PS : Kinect 2 don't work with Inateck KTU3FR-4P USB 3.0 (http://www.amazon.fr/Inateck-KTU3FR-4P-expresscard-USB-Controller-15pinY-Cable/dp/B00B6ZCNGM)

  • Hey Enzo,

I bought the one from the link as well (same card from Amazon germany). I simply plugged it in (ASUS P8P67 LE, into a long PCIe x16 slot) and Windows 8 installed the default Microsoft Renesas driver. So i sadly can't suggest anything to you. :/

Just wondering: Did you install Windows 7 drivers from Transcend? As far as i know there are no Transcend drivers for Windows 8.

Just some information: The three red lights in the middle are from the Infrared Emitter, no status LEDs.

  • There is a similar post discussing this issue here.

I had an ASMedia USB controller and the Kinect would not function, once I installed the Manhattan 150491 PCI-E express card (which is based on the Renesas controller) everything is now working successfully.

@Dwight-Goins you've literally saved me purchasing a new PC. Thank you!

  • I have a laptop (Sony VPCSA27) with a Renesas USB 3.0 controller.

I tried to operate my K4W2 sensor, but failed.

I could see only a warning message on the device manager: "The device cannot start."

The sensor itself works well with another laptop has an Intel controller.

-> I could remove the warning message by updating the controller driver.

However, the sensor is still not working with the Sony laptop -- no light on the frontal status LED.

  • Hi Adam

Did you have to do anything in particular to get it to work? Went out and bought the Elgato Thunderbolt Dock, boot camped my Mac Mini, Clean W8.1 Pro and VS 2013 but I'm just getting USB device not recognised. Tried getting drivers from Fresco but they don't appear to help.

    Any clues would be great.

  • Hello

I have a motherboard Asus P8H67-V with Windows 8.1 installed.

I see that USB 3.0 ASMedia kinect does not work, all it does is turn on and 3 red leds example screen goes black but connected.

    So I bought
2 Port USB 3.0 HUB to PCI-E PCI Express Card Adapter Converter 5.0Gbps Renesas D720200.

Now the red light does not appear, I tried to put in PCIE1 and 16x without getting any solution. The windows recognizes the Renesas but kinect does not detect it.

    Can anyone help?

thanX a lot for posting your specs!

¿what exactly do you mean by "a little pokey" (fps/ ?

do you think it's due to the elgato? or your the cpu power?

This seems to meet the specs according to what MSFT says.

I have this NUC D54250wykh, just installed the v2 1407 SDK, running Visual Studio samples, Kinect Studio, etc.

  • I have a stupid question :

my laptop has a intel usb 3.0 extensible host controller which is not working and I wonder if I could solve the problem by one of the USB External Hubs Working repported as "working" above ?

Or, the fact that my usb controller does not work will prevent the validated usb external hubs to work ?

    Thanks forward,

What slots are your gfx card and TS-PDU3 in?

Does it work without a gfx card - i.e. with onboard gfx?

Doesn't work: ASUS P8H67-M Pro with on-board USB 3 controller.

Works: ASUS P8H67-M Pro with TS-PDU3. Although the C# samples have a low frame rate. When I run a C++ sample and a C# sample at the same time, both samples work perfectly @ 30FPS!! Strange but true.

Works good: ASUS P8H77-M LE on-board USB 3 controller.

If I understand you correctly you're experiencing good frame rate with both samples running together but low frame rate if you run the C# sample alone...is that correct? If that's the case you may be running into some of the odd behavior of SpeedStep. It's possible the C# sample isn't quite intense enough for your processor to ramp up to normal speed whereas running both samples together gives your system enough load to ramp above your processor's minimum speed. I'd run something like CPUZ or Core Temp and then run your tests again to see if there's a significant difference in processor frequency between the two. If there is I'd guess that's your culprit.

  • Confirmed NOT working: StarTech PCI SuperSpeed PCIUSB3S22, 2x USB 3.0 (I would imagine the 4x model doesn't work either). It's weird because here MS says "Only USB3 controllers from Renesas and Intel are supported" and this card has a Renesas  chip.

It's stated here that Manhattan 150491 PCI-E works fine, could anyone else confirm this? Thanks!

Question: Could this be fixed in the future? Like via software updates? Or is it a hardware incompatibility problem and we'll have this problem forever?

    Friday, September 26, 2014 6:24 PM
  • Not sure if SpeedStep was the problem. When I was running three C# samples together the frame rate was still very low. A C# sample in combination with a C++ sample gave me 30FPS. All the C++ samples run at 30FPS even if only one was running.

Unfortunately I cannot perform any more tests because I already replaced my P8H67-M Pro with a P8H77-M LE, which is working perfectly.

  • I also have had issues with ASMedia. I'm running an ASUS Z97 MK1 Sabertooth Motherboard (with ASMedia) and a i7-4790K 4ghz processor. Switching off of the motherboard's USB 3.0 slots and to the Manhattan 150491 plugged into a PCIe 2.0 slot removed the USB Controller error but resulted in errors on color depth, so I'm not really sure the 150491 is completely supported.

Edit: Plugging into the Z97 via the 20 pin USB 3.0 to my case's USB 3.0 port and then to the Kinect works fine, so the Z97 is definitely capable of running things, but only in the right setup - the Manhatttan card in the PCIe2 slot didn't work, nor did plugging into the back of the motherboard.

  • After receviving my sensor I tried it on "another camp" platforms. My findings (using SDK samples):

Gigabyte GA970A - (AMD AM3+) - on-board 3rd party controller from eTron does not work (as expected - no frames), Renesas 720202 controller in PCI-e x1 slot -> similar behavior to the one described by Ronn7777 but hurray!! - it works on my main PC when loaded.

I suspect that is has something to do with PCI-e bus underclocking / switching to v1.0/1.1 speed or in general bios or OS definition of "idle" and "load" states.

    ASUS F2 A85-M LE - (AMD FM2) - on-board controller (in AMD A85X) - stable 30fps regardless of CPU load

ASUS AM1I-A (AMD AM1) - controller integrated in SoC (Athlon 5350) - stable 30fps regardless of CPU load

Above you said "I have this NUC D54250wykh, just installed the v2 1407 SDK, running Visual Studio samples, Kinect Studio, etc."

Is the Kinect for Windows V2 working ok with a keyboard and mouse connected to the other USB 3.0 ports?  If so, are you having any mouse or keyboard performance issues when the Kinect is running?

    Regards,

    Jack

This sort of specificity will get down the market of microsoft for sure. Every microsoft product is having these sort of silly but complicated issues.

  • Silverstone SST-ECU01 - PCIe Gen2.0 x2: Works*

    * when a powered external USB 3.0 hub is connected, 26-29 frames per second.  Configuration Tool says that it's a unknown USB 3.0 controller.

Interestingly, without the hub, no Kinect is detected.  With the hub, it works.

So this seems like a power issue, not a bandwidth issue.  I started with a ASMedia controller, embedded in a ASUS ROG Crosshair V Formula-Z.  My local store didn't have a card which was explicitly listed, so I went with a Gen.2 card.

I now have 4 USB 3.0 controllers + 20 USB ports in the machine, but still need a hub.  Go figure.

  • Hey there,

I recently discovered some seriously weird stuff about Renesas and its USB 3 cards/ports/whatever. I have a laptop with 2 Renesas USB 3 ports, AIDA64 Extreme says they are "NEC uPD720200AF1". However, Kinect v2 was not working, the windows device manager just said stuff like "cannot start device" and "Error Code 10".

I searched the web for hours, downloaded multiple drivers and firmwares and I even updated my BIOS. Still nothing working at all. And then I finally found a solution:

I went to bit.ly/1zpDGzL and downloaded all the drivers. Then I uninstalled the Renesas driver, restarted and installed the first of the downloaded drivers. It was the "ASM104xUSB3(v1.16.18.x)". I plugged in Kinect v2, started the Kinect Configuration Verifier and - voilà - everyhing was working as expected. To double-check I did the same thing on a friends PC with a PCIE Renesas Card - same results.

I know that this was just a really lucky guess, but it is still working fine - so everyone with a Renesas Chip having problems download the ASMedia Driver and be happy. Don't forget to uninstall the Renesas stuff before!

I hope I could help some people

    greetings

PS: If you are still having problems check your PCI Express clock speed in the BIOS settings. Just reset it to standard and then try again.

  • Lenovo Z50 Laptop when combined with Pluggable 7 port usb 3.0 hub, kinect works with prescribed functionality
    Monday, December 01, 2014 3:08 PM
  • Currently Working*: Asus X79 Deluxe with ASMedia USB 3.0 Controller.

*Worked for a while, stopped working, is now working again.

The Kinect v2 worked on the ASMedia controller for a couple days even though it fails the Kinect Configuration Verifier tool. Then it suddenly stopped working, with Device Manager reporting that the controller is unable supply enough power to start the device.

I tried several workarounds to get it to work - changed USB ports, unplugged all other USB devices, updated USB controller driver to latest on Asus' website, updated BIOS, enabled EHCI handoff in BIOS. None of those worked, even for a while.

What finally did work was letting Windows find its preferred driver for the ASMedia controller. Here's what I did:

    1. Opened Device Manager
    2. Expand Universal System Bus controllers
    3. Right click on the USB controller, in this case it was "ASMedia XHCI 1.0 Controller", click "Update Driver Software..."
    4. "Search automatically for updated driver software"
    5. Windows then found and installed a Microsoft driver that successfully powers the Kinect. The USB controller title is now "ASMedia USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller - 0100 (Microsoft)." The Driver Date is 2/21/2014, which is older than the Asus-provided ASMedia USB Controller drivers, but hey - it now works!
    6. Repeat steps 3-4 for all ASMedia controllers

I can't guarantee this is a permanent fix since the Kinect v2 has stopped working for me before, but I'll update this thread if it stops working again and I resort to buying a third-party PCIx card.

  • I have tried the Pluggable 7 port usb 3.0 hub with my Lenovo Ideapad Z585 and does not provide a sufficient FPS rate (only around 4 FPS).

With or without the my USB 3.0 port (AMD USB 3.0 eXtensible-Hostcontroller) is still unknown to the Kinect verifier.

  • Can you find out the exact chipset hardware ID from Device Manager and paste it here?

We are also using some TI USB 3.0 xHCI controller, but connected to PCIe-over-fiber. I'm curious if we are running into the same incompatibility problem.

  • I have a ASUS 990FX 2.0, and I did the exact same thing you did. And voila, it works! Checked it with Kinect Studio 2.0.

I still don't know if this is a permanent fix for ASMedia Controllers.

  • Hi everyone. I tried Kinect v2 sensor on my AMD computer these day.

At first, I used a expansion card which has a renesas chipset (NEC 720202) on my PC.

But kinect couldn't work and system said "Not enough USB controller resources."

After checking, I found my mobo only supports PCIE 1.0, and it can't provide enough speed.

So I bought a new mobo which supports PCIE 2.0, and connected my expansion card on it.

Now kinect v2 sensor can work!

I got 20 fps with depth frames.

So I think: Besides having a intel or renesas chipset, you have to insert your expansion card on PCIE 2.0 slot.

  • Trying to make Kinect for Windows 2 work with my Asus Crosshair V Formula Z board, and it fails.  The drivers supplied by Asus for the board are the ASMedia XHCI Controller v. 1.16.12.0.  Nothing seems to work.  Is there a master list of approved MoBo / Chipsets?  It would be nice if this were published with the hardware requirements for the Kinect, particularly for consumers who might be less knowledgeable about finding out why he hardware won't work on their system.

    Thanks,

    Michael

    TA990FXE Ver. 5.x

doesn't work saying "no-supported 3.0 usb connected" despite 'USB 3.0 A Type Female to Female 20 Pin Box Header Slot Adapter' from amazon and another two slots for 3.0 available on the motherboard which is ASMedia ASM1042 USB 3.0 controller

but works on my Lenovo yoga 13 but low fps so quite useless for Kinect fusion now. So fix this issues Microsoft!!!

  • I just bought a Surface Pro 3 (I5, 256 Gb) based on this forum thread.  But I can't get it to work.  Kinect Configuration Verifyer tells me "Supported USB 3.0 port detected with unknown bandwidth.  Kinect may or may no be compatible with your hardware."  The Kinect Connected section of the Verifyer says "No Kinect for Windows v2 sensor detected."

The green diode on the Kinect flashes.  When I keep Device Manager running, I notice that the Kinect Audio and the Kinect Camera appear under "Other Devices".  After about 30 seconds the disconnect system sound plays and the Camera goes off the Device Manager window.  After 2 seconds it comes back on, but continues to cycle on and off like this.

So my question is, where can I go to get help troubleshooting this?  How can I figure out if the USB port is really the problem?

  • but confirm that Rocketfish 2-Port USB 3.0 PCI Express Interface Card (RF-P2USB3) does works but its giving an issue of "no depth framerate" which in process of solving now!!!!!!!!
    Saturday, January 31, 2015 9:30 PM
  • Our experience is that Kinect v2 runs fine on Surface Pro 3 (i5 model), but the Kinect Configuration Verifier always reports the "unknown bandwidth" message, and we sometimes have to shutdown and restart the tablet for it to recognize the Kinect device. Also you should try to avoid having any other USB devices plugged in, although mouse and keyboard work OK for us (we use a USB 3 hub to attach the Kinect, mouse, and keyboard).

  • Hey!

So i have a Asus motherboard M5A97 R2.0 with ASM ASMedia® USB 3.0 controller and naturally the kinect won't work. If i get this Transcend TS-PDU3 USB3.0 Expansion Card  will it work? Do you have another suggestion?

    Thursday, February 19, 2015 11:36 AM
  • Hey, so I updated the drivers of ASMedia, they updated to version 0096 which has the same date as 0100 it seems. When i try to run an app from the SDK of kinect V2, the kinect boots up and shuts down after 5-10 seconds. It never gets the Frame event running nor i can run any audio based app. It never receives data. My motherboard is ASUS M5A97 R2.0 which naturally is not supported as it has ASMedia USB 3.0 Controller. Do you have any suggestions? Did you find a good PCI usb controller? I was thinking of getting Transcend TS-PDU3 USB3.0 Expansion Card since i can get it in 3-4 days (if i get it from amazon it would be about 2-3 weeks) but i saw that some people are reporting that it's too slow on some occasions. Any help/tip would be appreciated.

    Thank you in advance.

  • The SIIG card (JU-P20612-S1) suggested in this article does not work with my Kinect v2 sensor on Windows 8.1

It is plugged into a PCIe 2.0x16 slot on an Intel DX58SO motherboard.

The Kinect verification tool says no compatible USB 3.0 port found.

It would be nice if Microsoft would list of official compatible motherboards and/or PCIe USB 3.0 cards so that this doesn't happen again when I buy a new pc.

  • I can confirm this about the SIIG card. Plugged it into x16, x4 PCIe 2.0 on a Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 board which only has gen 2 slots according to the manufacturer. Nothing works. Ran v2 config tool and it says no compatible host found. Also tried a cheap best buy expansion that had the same NEC 072020 controller and got nothing.

Does anybody have a link to a card that works?

  • I have the Transcend TS-PDU3 USB3.0 Expansion Card.

Together with ASUS M5A97 motherboard, 32 GB RAM, FX-4100 CPU, SATA boot SSD, PCI-e SSD, ...

Renesas driver is reported to be installed and working properly, but Kinect 2 refuses to respond.
Configuration Tool complains about no compatible USB 3 host found.

    Any help would be appreciated.
Moreover I would like Microsoft to come up with actual solutions, preferably without extra costs.
Simply publishing a list of (more or less) compatible cards and configurations is merely inadequate when marketing a product initially said to only require dedicated USB 3 slot.

  • Any thoughts about the probability of the following build working before I buy the components?

    - Intel Xeon E3-1276 V3 3.6GHz Quad-Core Processor
    - Asus Z97-WS ATX LGA1150 Motherboard (Intel C226 Chipset) (Not sure about USB 3.0 Controller; Specs just state ("Built-in Controller")
    - Asus P9D-WS Motherboard

-PNY Quadro K4200 8GB Video Card

I am particularly concerned about USB 3.0 compatibility given most problems seem to be in this area.

  • Iv been very frustrated like some of you trying to get my kinect to turn on.. I have G74SX Asus laptop. I paid almost $2000.00 for this laptop. It has a fresco logic usb 3.0 chipset and doesn't work with Kinect 2. I have been through so much and every time I have called Microsoft, they try to turn me to asus, Xbox, fresco logic, and nobody knows what I should do. I was also told to drive 2 hours away to the closest microsoft store and have them test everything. It has been since last October and I am ready to give up and buy another laptop. Would like to make sure the laptop is fast enough to handle specific complicated projects with fast tracking. I am worried that an i5 surface pro 3 will not keep up. I am also curious why Microsoft states you must reset things and bandwidth can't be read. What affordable options work perfectly? Should I give up on a laptop for mobility and just purchase a micro size desktop? ASUS VivoPC-VM40B-02 Desktop. Would this work? Can I buy something with a touch screen for specific projects to work with this? How about the new surface 3? Not the pro.

My laptop's USB 3.0 seems to be incompatible with the kinect v2 (+adapter).
The list mentions some USB hubs...
Would my kinect work if I coenect it in one of these mentioned hubs, and the hub in my USB port??
    I supose it would not...
Can anyone post their experience with hubs, or other solutions that doesn't requires a new laptop?

  • Clevo P771ZM (same as Shenker W705) with GTX980M Working but cumbersome.

By default the computer with Clevo Bios does not activate USB xHCI and gives no possibility to do it.

So all usb 3.0 devices plugged in ports goes to a normal USB eHCI; so no superspeed, so not possible to load drivers.

I had to flash a new bios from premamod for P77xZM and after booting with new bios:

    xHCI Enable

    eHCI disable

then all my usb 3.0 ports will turn on the PCI xHCI : usb 3.0 eXtensible with superspeed for the Kinect.

Kinect configuration verifier still tell : usb in orange but everything runs fine.

So it seems that manufacturer do not link their usb3 ports in xHCI, particularly with laptops.

  • Confirmed working

Vantec Dual Chip 4-Port Dedicated 5Gbps USB 3.0 PCIe Host Card (Model:UGT-PCE430-2C)

This card only works with the Renesas driver provided on the disk. Windows didn't recognize it and my wireless card and onboard LAN stopped functioning until I installed drivers from the CD. I have an ASRock 970Extreme3 Mobo.

    I would then also expect

Vantec Quad Chip 4-Port Dedicated 5Gbps USB 3.0 PCIe Host Card (Model:UGT-PCE430-4C)

should work as well, given it utilizes the same chipsets.

Kinect Verifier red X's the USB, but it works anyways. I pull high framerates in Fusion on an AMD FX8320 and Radeon R9 270x. GPU runs at about 80% utilization.

  • I used the ASRock USB 3.1/A+C PCIe Card with ASMedia ASM1142 Controller chipset.

I confirm it works very well with Kinect v2.

Even after we extend the connection over 24m, the versifier still remains 25+ fps. (Many other controller chipset won't handle this far extension)

Note that you have to choose the USB xHCI Compliant Host Controller for the driver in the device manager, otherwise, ASMedia's own driver won't be compatible with Kinect at all.

I think MS really did a good job in win8 in terms of unifying all the device drivers.

    Wednesday, June 10, 2015 11:43 PM
  • I can also confirm Kinect V2 working with ASRock USB 3.1/A+C PCIe Card with ASMedia ASM1142 Controller chipset. It is attached to a Asrock 3.1 motherboard.

However... For me the Kinect turns and stays active only once, afterwards claiming that there are not enough resources on USB port of the PCIe card.

The workaround is to either restart the computer or disable/enable the driver that the PCIe card is using. Still it will work only once. Driver details:

Universal Serial Bus controller: ASMedia USB 3.0 eXtensible Host controller - 0110 (Microsoft)
    Driver Date: 04/09/2015
    Driver Version: 6.3.9600.17797

  • Why has this topic been removed from the sticky list?

Sure the Kinect version(preview) that this was meant for is heavily outdated, but hardly any of the users that reply here are pointing to that specific Kinect rather Kinect v2(for Windows/Xbox One).

Just change the wording and sticky it again. This is crucial knowledge.

  • Hey there clmns,

I see that you are able to use the kinect V2 with your macbook pro Late 2013. I have a 15 inch mackbook pro 11, 3 with an intel 8 series c220 Chipset and I seem to be having issues getting the Kinect V2 running. Here is where I have done so far. The kinect would continuously disconnect and reconnect under windows 10 and windows 8.1, so I replaced the Intel eXtensible USB host controller driver with the Intel drivers (instead of the MS drivers). This resolved the issue with the Kinect disconnecting over and over, however, now the mic array is showing up and the WDF KinectSensor interface 0 is showing a yellow exclamation mark in the device manager, and under the device status it shows:

This device cannot start. (Code 10) {Operation Failed} The requested operation was unsuccessful.

When I run the Kinect Configuration Verifier, I get an orange exclamation mark on the USB controller saying

Result: Supported USB port detected with unknown bandwidth. Kinect may or may not be compatible with your hardware.

I would love to know how you got this working, as I am runing what seems to be completely adequate hardware, and have spent way too long trying to figure this out (going on 3 days now). In attempts to speed up the USB bus, I have tried disabling all of the other peripherals connected to that chain (SD reader, bluetooth). This made no difference.

    Thursday, August 06, 2015 12:33 AM
  • It's worth noting that having upgraded from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10, I've had the Kinect configuration verifier change the status for the USB card in my system. The state on Windows 8.1 was 'No supported USB 3 Card Detected'. On Windows 10, it's now showing 'supported USB 3.0 port detected with unknown bandwidth'. However, it's still not working as it's saying the drivers are not installed and it's failing to install the SDK on Windows 10.

Go figure.

Hey Matt, were you able to figure out why the 3.0 on this mobo didn't support the connect? I went into the bios settings and set enable powering via usb which still didn't work.  Either way, could you tell me what you bought or did to get the Kinect v2 working on the ASUS ROG Crosshair V Formula-Z.  It's funny you mentioning the amount of USB ports on the machine cuz I was also thinking it's a little excessive and it still doesn't even support all devices. ASUS FAIL!

Thanks very much for the post - helpful as always!

I have a Kinect2 for Xbox that I am trying to use with Windows 8.1 via the Windows adapter.

I also have a Kinect2 for Windows that works as expected, but whenever I use the K2 for Xbox + adapter I can't get a stable connection, and it sometimes alerts me that USB resources are low.

I am definitely using a USB 3.0 port, and I have tried all of those available on my machine.
I also have nothing else plugged in apart from a wireless mouse and keyboard!

Do you have any info that might help me?

Thank you for your help again!!

I just wanted to confirm (after a lot of trial and error) that the magic combination of the ORICO PRU3-4P (with Win 8.1 default MS driver) with the EVGA GeForce GTX 750Ti worked for me. This is on an old circa-2011 HP Z400 workstation with a quad core 2.66 GHz Intel Xeon CPU. I should add that the ORICO card is hard to find these days. I had to get mine on eBay via a Chinese seller. USB cards that did *not* work with the Kinect (but worked with other peripherals just fine): Startech PEXUSB312A 2-Port USB 3 (worked with default Win 8.1 MS driver but required a computer re-start to use it each time) and the Inateck PCI-E to USB 3.0 2-Port PCI Express Card (didn't work at all).

  • Transcend TS-PDU3 USB3.0 Expansion Card has not enough resources (by pop up)
and usb  flags on red by Kinect conf certifier.
    DON'T WORK in my system
I bought it by the link proposed by Dwight_Goins, but nothing change, i does not work at all (it's my 3th negative experience
in buying pcie to usb 3.0 adaptor).

    My Kinect is v2
My mobo doesn't have by itself usb 3.0 ports, so i run into the adapter. failing.
My mobo is Asrock NS68 -s3 ucc.
My processor is Athlon II x2 245 2.91 ghz.
Desperately searchin for connecting kinect to pc.
    Apparently no chance.
Do i have to change mobo? Is it too old?
Do i have to thow away, finally, Kinect and adaptor cables and all?

  • Has anybody tried running Kinect v2 on HP Elitebook 2570P? I'm creating a setup with 4 kinects and wanted to buy compact and reasonably priced computers to operate with those additional devices. Elitebook seems like a good solution, but I wouldn't like to risk it before I'm sure it's compatible.

Also, I trid my Vaio SVE14 and in spite of it having Intel USB controller it doesn't work (anybody made it run on SVE14?).

  • Does not work with my Asus K53S laptop running Windows 10.  Has Asmedia USB 3.0 driver.

Purchased Targus 3.0 4 port hub indicated in the post as working, but still does not work.  Kinect is recognised when running verification tool, but verification tool indicates no suitable USB 3 port even when Targus hub is connected.  Further notification when using MS 3d scan software from download store is that there are not enough available resources - this is despite having the hub connected in and powered.

Does anyone know a further workaround?  I don't want to have to purchase another laptop just to get this working if it is just that one driver still giving issues.

  • If you're using a PCIe expansion card make sure the slot it is installed in is wired for the number of lanes the card is designed to utilize. It's also worth uninstalling the driver for the USB device you're trying to run the Kinect on and reinstalling a driver from a different source. This is especially true if the driver you're using was automatically downloaded by Windows.

I have had similar issues with my PCIe x8 USB card being plugging into a mobo port that is wired as x4. I also had to uninstall the generic USB driver downloaded by Windows and install the Renesas driver off the CD provided with my adapter to get my Kinect working.

  • What driver is the expansion card using? If Windows automatically installed a driver it might be worth uninstalling and installing a supported Renasis driver.

    Saturday, June 25, 2016 10:52 AM
  • I'm having problem with a HP EliteDesk 800 G2 (TWR?) Win8.1 x64

I can't get normal fps from the Kinect, only between 17-25. Also tried an addin card with renesas chipset, same results.

Right now I see Renesas USB3.0 eXtensible Host Controller - 100 (Microsoft)

Intel(R) USB 3.0 Host Controller Adaptation Driver

    Both seem up to date.

Can anyone suggest something? It would be so great to get it working fine!

    Thanks!

do I have to buy Surface Pro 3 for this???

  • I can confirm Kinect One works with Intel NUC Kit NUC6i7KYK.

But not out of the box. There is a BIOS setting under "Secondary Power Settings" called "PCIe ASPM support" that you need to DISABLE (uncheck) to make it work smooth at 29-30 FPS.

With that setting enabled (which is the default BIOS value), the frame rate is very erratic, mostly below 25 fps, and and often goes even below 10fps for up to a few seconds.

Could you write a driver version?

  • I've spent a lot of time for the past couple of days trying out PCIe cards that will make my PC pass the USB Controller check for Kinect v2 with the new $39.99 USB adapter.

    My setup:

    • Dell Alienware Aurora R4 2014 with the Windows 10 Anniversary Update installed and latest drivers and BIOS revision.
    • Motherboard: 0FPV4P Alienware Aurora R4 Chipset-Intel X79 Socket-LGA2011
    • NVidia 780 with the latest driver up to two days ago.
    • I've reset the OS once to factory settings.

I've tried the following PCIe chipsets on PCIe x16 and x1:

    • Renesas / NEC D720200, D720201 and D720202

All of the chipsets above installed with the Microsoft USB Controller Driver:

    • Renesas USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller - 1.0 (Microsoft)
    • USB Root Hub (xHCl)

My Kinect v2 works but the Configuration Verifier shows - USB Controller: No supported USB 3.0 port detected - for all three chipsets that I listed above. Anything from the SDK Browser (Kinect for Windows) v2.0 works. Microsoft Hello works. Works as a webcam resource on XSplit.  Also works with KScan3D 1.2 64bit.

    *********************************************************

    Doesn't work with:

    • PCIe card Gen 2 with a ASM1142 chipset - Disconnect issue
    • ASMedia USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller - 1.1 (Microsoft) - Disconnect issue
    • Microsoft 3D Scan App - Grey Screen issue - I'm totally bummed out about this one.

    *********************************************************

I hope this very time consuming and very expensive endeavor of mine will save someone grief and frustration. Overall, I like my Kinect v2. I can't wait to start developing something cool with it. Thanks for reading my post and if you know how I can resolve my Microsoft 3D Scan App issue, I will appreciate you, and maybe send you one of the brand new PCIe cards that I bought.

  • It has been a week now that I have being trying different laptops with kinect v2. In media markt they give you the opportunity to return it within 15 days. So what I have being doing is buying, trying, returning. Here is the list of laptops I have tried so far with the corresponding estimated average framerate kinect v2 gave in the configuration verifier:

    • Asus R510VX-DM010T, i7-6700HQ, NVIDIA GTX950M 2GB, 8GB fps: ~20
    • Asus VivoBook Pro N552VX-FW027T, i7-6700HQ, 8GB RAM y GTX950M 2GB fps: ~18. This one also had a USB 3.1 typo C. I bought a type C to type A adapter. But there was no improvement in the frame rate.
    • HP 15-AX005NS i7-6700HQ, 8GB, GTX960 fps: ~25
    • LenooLenovo 700-15ISK, i7-6700HQ, 8GB RAM y GTX950 fps: ~18
    • Lenovo Ideapad Y700-15ISK, i7-6700HQ, 12GB RAM y GTX960 (I kept this one so far): fps: ~29fps

All these laptops are gaming laptops, expensive ones. As you can observe finding a laptop with usb gen 2 (superfast+) is quite a challenge nowadays.... In the case of the last laptop on the list, in order to compute the average fps, I modified the source code of Depth-Basic D2D sample given in the SDK browser, so as to give the average fps over 10 seconds. The fps of the rest of the laptops I give, are just estimation of what I saw in the Kinect Configuration versifier over about 20 secs.

In the case of Idealpad Y700, when I first connect the fps flactuates between 28-30 with an average at 29.5fps. But after some minutes of usage it seems that the average becomes 28.5fps. I do not know if I should keep this one, ore return and try one more. I know that another guy in the office using an old macbook (3 years old), gets a steady 29-30 fps (estimated average ~29.8 fps).

One strange thing is that laptops with the same motherboard (most have the Intel® HM170 chipset) give varying fps. Shouldn't they have the same usb 3.0 ports?

Any advice? Should I keep the lenovo Y700?

  • Thanks zackbam, notoib and kcdiaz for your detailed posts!

I'm currently diagnosing a low, jumpy framerate on my new Windows 10 laptop:

ASUS ROG GL502VS-DB71 15.6" FullHD Gaming Laptop, Intel Core i76700HQ

Kinect v2 Configuration Verifier says "Unknown USB 3.0 port detected. Your USB configuration may support Kinect for Windows" and reports a framerate of ~9 FPS on average

I have tried notoib's suggested Device Manager driver install, but the lastest drivers from Microsoft are

ASMedia USB3.1 eXtensible Host Controller (10/12/2015)

    Intel(R) USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller - 1.0 (7/15/2016)

i had install Sdk v2.0 on my desktop computer(DEll optiplex 9020) but i found USB controller error.

Check your USB controllers for Kinect for Windows v2 compatibility

Result: Supported USB 3.0 port detected with unknown bandwidth . Kinect may or may not be compatible with your hardware.

so how can i solve this problem ?

  • I was able to get the Kinect v2 working with the following USB 3.0 card (4-Port):

    MediaSonic HP1-U34F

    http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=48_19_903&item_id=074857

    https://www.amazon.ca/Mediasonic-HP1-U34F-Ports-Express-Connector/dp/B00LWIB8I2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qe,id=1483894495&sr=8-1&keywords=HP1-U34F

I also tried the Mediasonic 2 port version with no luck. I believe its chip was the D720204

Not sure about the Amazon Version, I bought mine from the Canada Computers store. It has a blue board with vertically mounted ports. The chip is a D720201 - Renesas Driver. I just let Windows install the driver on its own.

    The rest of my setup:

AMD Athlon II x2 250 CPU
    GA-MA78LMT-S2 Motherboard

    6GB DDR3 @ 1333Mhz RAM

    Nvidia GTX 580 GPU w/ 1.5GB GDDR5 RAM

    Win 8.1 Embedded Industry Pro - 64bit

Passed all the config tests and runs the Kinect demos smoothly.

  • In case anyone is still having problems with this in 2017 like I was... I am also running the Renesas uPD720201 chipset, on my Rosewill PCI-E to USB 3.0 4-Port controller with molex power connector:
     https://www.amazon.com/dp/B011LZY20G/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_Wzq2ybMK85G4F

I am also running an AMD Radeon RX 480 graphics card. On the Kinect v2 Configuration Verifier, I passed all tests except the very last one for Verify Kinect Depth and Color Streams, it said "No depth frames received from Kinect." Additionally, in my device manager, when I checked the properties for WDF KinectSensor Interface 0, I got the following error message:

This device cannot start. (Code 10)

Both of these error messages finally went away and everything started working once I simply updated the driver for my Renesas USB 3.0 Controller in the device manager. Surprisingly, the automatic search for new driver updates actually worked. This was after pulling my hair out for 4 hours, unplugging and plugging the USB cable back in, restarting my computer, and setting my graphics card settings to high. But it was just a driver update.

So, I can confirm the Renesas uPD720201 chipset works, at least in terms of passing all the tests in the Configuration Verifier and producing a depth map. As for the quality of the depth map and other problems that have been mentioned regarding Renesas chipsets, I have not seen any problems yet, but I can't be sure.

    Best of luck!

    Monday, April 03, 2017 9:33 PM
  • When doing a USB controller compatibility list, it is important to provide hardware and exact driver provider+version+sys filename.

I have known USB 3.0 problems which were solved by updating driver (for example device properties were not populated correctly by driver sys binary, many applications rely on that).

Windows 8 and above should have native USB 3 support with native Microsoft sys:

    C:\windows\system32\drivers\ USBXHCI.SYS

Not sure if the problem with USB 3 is exactly what i experienced, but just wanted to mention that it does not need to be hardware issue at all, but usage of chip vendor's messed up W7 driver.
