  • I'm trying to add something following your thinking. Just FYI.

    How many instances are there?
    Is AS/IS/RS/Agent/Browser service started?
    Where is database files?
What are the default collations? recovery model? (maybe already included in your engine configuration settings)
How many linked servers are there?
    What protocols are enabled?

And following are only for sql sever 2008:
    Is Data Collection enabled?
    Is Resource governor enabled?
