    Hello,

    Can we use Department field to group Task Custom Fields in Proejct Server 2010?

    Description: In Project Server 2010, we are using Department Field, we have grouped Task Custom fields into different departments using Department field, and then, when we want to create a project, we are not able to see task custom fields for the Department we selected in Project Information dialog box. Am I missing any setting? Please suggest.

    Hi Kishore,

    Yes, Task custom fields can be assigned a department and only should be available based on the department field assigned to the project.

    But I also noticed some strange behavour during my tests:

    • Task custom fields assigned to the department do not show up in the Task Information dialog box under Custom Fields
    • I can add all task level custom fields to my table and enter values for them, regardless of the Department value selected for the project.

    Saving and Publishing the project doesn't make any difference.

    Is this the behavior you are seeing?

    Seems like a bug to me and your best option might be to contact Microsoft support.
