Setting ColorFrameSource to Desired Resolution In Kinect API ColorFrameReader Class RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am using the Kinect V1.8 and/or V2.0 SDK for a personal project. And am running into computational lag because the native size of the image buffer returned from a call like:

    1. ColorFrame colorFrame = cfr.AcquireLatestFrame()

    is so large. I would like to know if it is possible to set the resolution of the incoming color frame, natively -- have it resolved at a 'lower level' in the pipeline. I am doing a lot of processing with the color image frame and it is quite costly to resize the image, or to use the native HD resolution it comes back as. Being able to set it to VGA 640x480 would be ideal.

    Perhaps I have to set this prior to opening the Kinect Sensor for streaming?

    I have seen some things in past SDK for the Kinect that allow you to do so, but none of the posts in forums were from supported MSDN community.

    Thanks.
