Is SQL Server 2005 Express Edition SP2 with Advanced Services compatible with Windows Server 2008 Foundation? RRS feed

  • Question

  • The title says it all.  Can someone please direct me to any MS links which explicitly state whether or not the installation of SQL Server 2005 Express Edition SP2 with Advanced Services is supported on Windows Server 2008 Foundation?

I'm specifically interested if there will be any conflicts between the 32-bit reporting services installed with SSEE with Adv Services and Windows Server 2008 Foundation.  Has anyone installed this yet and will Reporting Svcs function correctly?

I've found the following MS links so far, none of which answer my question exactly:

There is no explicit mention of Windows Server 2008 Foundation support for SQL Server 2005 here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143506(SQL.90).aspx

However, Windows Server 2008 Foundation support is mentioned explicitly in the SQL 2008 version of this article here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143506.aspx, hence my concern.

According to MS, SQL 2005 EE SP2 should be supported as per this list: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2008/en/us/supported-applications.aspx.

“…SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 2 … [is] also supported.”

This said, there is no explicit mention of Advanced Services in the above link.

We've already done extensive testing with Server 2008 Standard and Enterprise editions, but we don't have Foundation in-house.

    I'd appreciate any help.

    Thanks,

    Charles Brinkman
