  • Hello,

You can try disabling corresponding Ribbon controls and intercepting keyboard shortcuts that invoke these commands. Note that in Word 2007, the corresponding context menu items are command bar controls, not Ribbon controls; in Word 2010 the context menu items are Ribbon controls.

  • Hi Shaahs,

Depending on the implementation of your add-in you could theoretically do the following.

Store a document variable on each document that you want to protect. Your add-in then uses the built-in Word macros of EditClear, EditCopy, EditCut, EditPaste, EditPaste2, and probably a few others where it checks if the document contains that special document variable you have set.

If the variable does exist then you display a message and exit the EditClear, EditCopy, etc routine before it performs its edit action.

Any such protection measures in Word are superficial at best. They are easily broken/circumvented (eg by disabling macros). If you want that level of protection (shaahs has started another thread asking for print protection as well), you need a secure PDF.

  • See my reply to your other question (http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/worddev/thread/3745afe6-cd67-4062-8340-ef7ccdeaac51) for background on what you need in order to implement this kind of protection in Word in a reliable manner.

  • Hi Everybody,

I think you will be interest in these two similar threads:

Problem disabling commands in vsto excel 2010

    Disable Move or Copy Sheet.

These two scenarios are target at Excel, however, we can do a little bit of modifications to fit Word.
