Offline Cube data missing RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi!

    I have a problem when i export an online cube to offline with "create global cube".

    First of all, the online cube is correct. When i export this cube to offline, the data are wrong: the values are less than the actual values randomly. It seems that some data may be cut. The "create global cube" command does a simple export, no filter is applied or else. No errors or warnings are signaled.

    The file size is near to 2 GB.
    In the cube, per year:

    - 2014, 2015 -> correct cube (file size about 1.5GB)

    - 2015, 2016 -> correct cube (file size about 1.6GB)

    - 2014, 2015, 2016 -> wrong cube (file size about 1.8-1.9GB).

    There is any limitation of file size?

    I use Sql Server 2012.

    Any ideas o suggestion?

  • Hi Simon,

    Thank you for your answer!

    Any help you can give me is welcome even waiting a bit. On the Internet I found no information and do not know what to try to solve it.

  • Hi Gianluca Carlesso,

    Firstly, it is necessary to identify which part of data is missing: is any dimension or measure not created in the local cube or some data is missing?

  • Hi Vicky,

    Some data is missing. Dimensions and measures are created in the local cube.

    In the command CREATE GLOBAL CUBE, i indicates what dimensions and measures to include.

    CREATE GLOBAL CUBE [Cube Name] STORAGE '\\path\Cube.cub' FROM [Cube]
     MEASURE [cube].[Measure1],
     MEASURE [cube].[Measure2],
     DIMENSION [cube].[Dim1],
     DIMENSION [cube].[Dim2],
     DIMENSION [cube].[Dim3]

    The cube online has all the dimensions and measures, while purposefully offline has fewer dimensions and measures.

    The strange thing is that if I create an offline cube with data from the years 2014 and 2015 (or 2015 and 2016) the values are correct. If I export with the data of 2014, 2015 and 2016, the cube values are lower than the real ones.

    For example:

    Online Cube - Correct Values
    Quantity Sold
    2014 2015 2016
    Article 1 50 100 150
    Article 2 10 50 40

    Online Cube - Correct Values (filter data per year 2014 and 2015)
    Quantity Sold
    2014 2015 2016
    Article 1 50 100 150
    Article 2 10 50 40

    Offline Cube - Wrong Values

    Quantity Sold
    2014 2015 2016
    Article 1 40 75 134
    Article 2 0 1 15

    Is my explanation  clear?

  • By Microsoft Support the answer:
    The described behavior is by design due to the size limitation of 2GB for offline cubes the SSAS engine is truncating data and so there is no consistency.
