Optimisation ( very large .xap) RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've completed a little video player demo that plays a total of 9 videos.

The total file sizes of the videos is about 45meg.

I also have a .xap weighing in at 73meg.

This has all been done for local  testing, but what steps can I take to optimise these, and can someone shed some light on the probable cause of the .xap's size?

  • What's included in the XAP file? (rename it to zip and open it to find out).

I assume you are embedding your video files in either your xap or dll.
Check out the properties of the videofiles in VS2008 and check what the Build Action is.
Check out this site for a nice listing of the differences between the various actions:

In your case it should be set to "None" and you should use the webclient to async download.

You could consider hosting your videos on SilverlightStreaming by the way.

    Hope this helps.
