Data Source Configuration Wizard Error - EF5 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I can't find the "Entity" entry in the Data Source Configuration Wizard.

I have created an Empty ASP.NET Web Application using VS 2012. I then added a new ADO.Net Entity Data Model item to the project. I've added references to the project: System.Web.Entity.dll, System.Web.Entity.Design.dll and System.Data.Entity. I added a WebForm and copied a GridView control from the ToolBox and selected Task. I then selected "Choose data source" and "<New Data Source...>". I got the following list: Database, LINQ, Object, Site Map and XML File; but no Entity entry.

The ConnectionString looks OK. I've re-started the solution and I still can't access "Entity" when I re-create the GridView.

I'm obviously doing something wrong. Would anyone please put me out of my pain.

    Many thanks.

  • Hi John,

I would suggest you to make sure if you have EntityDataSource control in the Data tab of your Toolbox. If there isn't EntityDataSource, you can right click in Data tab of your Toolbox and select Choose Items... Check EntityDataSource in .NET Framework Components tab and then click OK.

It is the fact that Data Source Configuration Wizard windows get the data source type from Data tab of Toolbox.
