Upgrade from sql server 2008 to 2008 r2 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi

All we have a requirement to Upgrade from SQL Server 2008 to SQL Server 2008 R2,below are few questions.

    1. we have Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Standard Edition (SP1) - 10.0.2531.0 (X64) on all our environments, We wanted to Upgrade from Standard Edition to sql server 2008 R2 Developer edition.

but on refering to the link http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143393(v=sql.105).aspx, found it is not possible to upgrade to developer edition, so the only option left is

to uninstall and install. is there any other option and we dont want the new named instance.

    2. Currently Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Standard Edition is SP1 and  to upgrade to SQL Server 2008 R2 Enterpise Edition, do we need to be in SP2 or is it fine with SP1

    please suggest.

  • Once you uninstall the existing SQL Server 2008 standard default instance, you can install a new SQL Server 2008 R2 Developer default instance

  • 1. Looks like you have to uninstall SQL Server 2008 Standard and then install new SQL Server 2008 R2 Developer

    2. SQL Server 2008 SP2 is not mandatory to upgrade to SQL Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition
