  • Since I already have Beta 1 installed, do I uninstall everything before installing Beta 2?

  • Yes, that would be a good idea. Just be aware that there are two packages you have to uninstall:

    RDS 4 Beta
    CCR & DSS 4 Beta

When you install RDS, it installs the CCR & DSS Runtime for you automatically, but when you uninstall it does not uninstall CCR & DSS. This is a legacy of a time when the CCR & DSS Toolkit was available separately. (It can still be used separately, and some commercial enterprises do use it).

Also, when you uninstall RDS it does not remove any files that it did not place on your hard drive. This means that there can be a lot of files left over if you have been editing the code in the tutorials for example. This does not cause any problems, but you might want to recover the disk space by deleting the RDS 4 Beta folder. Just remember to copy any services you might want to keep.

And lastly, if you do copy services over to the RDS 4 Beta 2 folder, you need to run DssProjectMigration to update them and recompile before you will be able to use them in RDS 4 Beta 2. You cannot bring over binary (compiled) services from the Beta to Beta 2. RDS is strongly named/versioned which means that binaries are not compatible across versions.
