  • Hi,

Let me try t answer your questions:

    1. Maintenance plans are used to maintain your database. (backups, index maintnance...etc)
    2. It is simplifying your database maintenance tasks. Eg: you do not need to manually rebuild your indexes, it ca be done by the maintentance plan. Backups also can be done by a maintenance  plan
    3. It is used every time you need it :) or scheduled time.
    4. Yes it is in SQL Server.
    5. It is used by DBA's.
    6. Users, DBA's, everybody should benefit.

here are some articles you should read:

    I hope it helps.

  • Hello Niraj,

You can have a look at http://ukganguly.spaces.live.com and check for the Automation in SQL Server category. I have written a step-by-step notes on how to create a maintenance plan in SQL server 2005.

    Hope this helps!

  • Hi Janos,

I went through these although it explains about the maintenanace plan. But I was looking for a template/file which I can publish in my orgnization so that everyone follows the best practices. Is there a sample template I could find about it.

    Thanks for your response.
