Can't find Basic Page in Add New Item in Visual Studio Community on Windows 10


  • Can't find 'Basic Page' in 'Add New Item' in Visual Studio Community on Windows 10, can only see 'Blank Page'. Any Help?

  • Sounds like you may have a corrupt installation as the Add New Item dialog simply enumerates the available templates and renders them. Try doing a repair. If that doesn't work then add a screenshot or explain what you are seeing in the Add New Item dialog (list of project types, templates, etc).

    Also make sure that you selected some languages when you installed by rerunning the installer and looking under Programming Languages on the components screen. If you didn't install VS yourself then it is possible it was installed as just the shell (i.e. for SSMS) in which case you won't have any language options.

    What’s your project type? I found only some specific projects can add new item with ‘Blank Page’ and ‘Basic Page’, like C#/VB—Windows-Windows 8-Windows Phone as below:

    Please confirm the project type that you created can add the above two pages through Add New Item and if the ‘Basic Page’ is missing from the Add New Item windows, we can try to re-install the VS default templates with the following steps:

    1) Please go to the VS community 2015 installation location, usually locates C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 14.0\Common7\IDE
    2) Delete the ItemTemplatesCache, ProjectTemplatesCache folder;  
    3) Run the command devenv /InstallVSTemplates:
    4) Run the command devenv /Setup  

    Or like CoolDadTx said, go to Control Panel—Programs and Features and right click the VS community 2015, Change-Repair, then reopen VS to check this issue again.

    If this issue persist, could you please share the detail steps to reproduce this issue and attach the screenshot of your New Item page, thank you for your support.
