System.XML and Vista RRS feed

  • Question

  • Not sure if this is the place to ask this question but...

I have a .Net 2 app that has been running on XP happily for some years.

We have just had reports from customers of this app crashing on Vista machines. I have been as yet unable to reproduce the crash on any Vista machines in the office but post mortem debuging on the customer machines tells me it is crashing reading an XML file.

v2.0.50727\System.XML on the problem machine has version number 2.0.50727.1434 whilst on my vista machine it is 2.0.50727.312

(to confuse matters more, on my colleagues vista machine it is 2.0.50727.3031)

    My questions are
    1) Am I barking up the right tree here?
    2) Has the implementation of said dll changed from XP to Vista?
    3) Is there any way to find out what differences there are between these two binaries, why they are different/what update is responsible.

    Thanks in advance

  • The problem machine looks that have .NET 2.0 sp1 installed.
Version 2.0.50727.312 is the number of .NET 2.0 originally shipped with Vista.
Your colleagues seems to have installed .NET Framework 3.5 sp1 which includes .NET 2.0 sp2.

For more information about version numbers, See:

I'm not sure the root cause though as I've no idea what the application looks like, you can try delivering it to .NET Base Class Library for better response.

  • That explains the differences in version numbers.

As far as I can tell there is no .NET 2.0 sp1 for Vista. I will try upgaring the customer to 3.5 sp1.
