Word 2010 Click-and-run - registry settings RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

one of our clients have switched to Word 2010 click-and-run installations. This has caused our Wise installation program, which installs templates and add-ins and sets paths in the registry, unable to set the registry settings for the UserTemplates, SharedTemplates and STARTUP-PATH.

I have searched the registry for similar settings but found none. There is not even a setting for ../Office/14.0/...

Where are the settings for Office 2010 click-and-run found? Is it at all possible to set them other than from the Word user interface itself?

    Thanks, Peeter

  • I'm sorry to say that there is currently no solution for your problem.

With typical understatement, the Known Issues page says "Many add-ins might not function as expected when used with Click-to-Run."

The issue is that the Click-to-Run mechanism virtualizes everything about the Office environment, including the disk (hence the Q: drive) and the registry. Microsoft's recommendation is to go back to an MSI-based installation when the issue is a stumbling block.
