How to configure SQL authenticate user via specific Domain Controller RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have some trusted domains under the same forest, one of the domain has 400 domain controllers, sometimes some of the DC is down and as a result users might not be able to be authenticated. Is it possible for SQL to authenticate specific users through specific domain controller?

    Thank you very much.

  • I would have thought if a DC is down, authentication requests automatically get redirected to other domain controllers.

I don't believe this is something you can do within SQL Server (and it would be a bit of a security loophole if you could redirect authentication requests in this way).

There may be ways of doing this outside of SQL via port filtering rules etc. but this really needs to be explored at the domain setup/network infrastructure level, rather than SQL Server.
