Storage disk size and usage RRS feed

  • Question

  • From Lars Skjoldby (@skjoldby) via Twitter who tweets:

“When is visible disk size 20 GB is it the place I can really use, or should I just remember that Windows also fills?” (translated from Danish).

The customer also added: “Just wanted to know when you list e.g. 20 GB is that disk space that I can use, or do I have to subtract diskspace for Windows”.

Appreciate if you can advise the customer on this matter.

  • Hi Francis Colgan,

Does your customer want to install Windows into a disk with 20 GB free space?
If so, it can be done, but it is not recommended.

Because 20 GB is too small for Windows and application software. Some app will be needed and installed, and free disk space will become smaller, finally your customer will need more free space.
Sorry in advance, if I've misunderstood what you mean.

    Best regards,

  • What are you going to use the 20GB disk for? Is it for an OS disk or a Data Disk? If for data, then it's for data, and you should be able to use it all.
