Always On : increasing memory RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi:

I have an existing AlwaysOn setup in my SQL Server 2014 enveronment. I want to increase the memory from 128GB to 184GB.

I know that I should be doing this in the primary as well as the secondary server. I want to know what would happen if I upgrade the primary one first and then in the time frame between upgrading the second one, will my availability group break.

Let me know if there is a process thats to be followed to upgrade the Memoory for servers in always On.

  • Memory is dynamic to SQL Server and there is no requirement to have same amount of memory on the two (or more) machines involved in Always On (you din't say which AlwaysOn technology you use, there are two which are very different from each other).

If you did configure a max server memory setting (which is generally recommended) for your instance(s), then you probably want to up this after install the memory in the machine.
