Reporting Services In MultiSite Fialover Cluster Disaster RRS feed

  • Question

  • We are deploying Multi-site fail-over Cluster environment.Below are the configuration.

2 Node SQL server 2008 R2 node on Primary Side

2 Node SQL node on DR Site

Data replication is using through SAN To san replication.

Now its ok how will client connect to sql network name using dns to primary site and during failover of primary site to dr site.but how will reporting server works.

How will we configure reporting services on DR site and how will client resolve 2nd reporting services if one of site failes in multi site fail-over Cluster environment.

  • what if i use NLB for Report server.using multiple report server sharing same DB.How will this work in multisite failover cluster....

    Hi Dev,

You can install SQL Server Reporting Services on multisite failover cluster nodes and add those SSRS instances into scale-out deployment.

  • Hi Dev,

According to your description, you need to use Windows Failover Clustering with SQL Server Reporting Services, right?

SSRS is designed to achieve High Availability through a Scale-Out architecture. A scale-out deployment provides a way to share a database. If one report server goes down, other servers in the same deployment will continue to work. Failover clustering with SSRS is possible, though there are a number of considerations and manual steps involved on your part. In your scenario, you can configure the primary side report server and DR site report server into scale-out deployment. So that primary site is not available, the DR site report server will continue to work. Please refer to the link below to see the details.

  • How can i Install SQL Server Reporting services on  the same node.SQL Server Report Server are not supported in Fail-over Cluster and is cluster aware.

Can you explain..how report server works on the same node on which database engine resides and is configured in fail-over cluster?
