VSX - Custom Debug Engine RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi community,

I've been investigating for several days the MSDN Docs about VSX and Debug Engines Integration but i got an issue i couldn't figure it out.

    Here's the thing:

I have a custom language X, who in compile time, it translates the syntax in language X to a language Y (i.e. C++) so when i debug my source code and set a breakpoint in some line (which in the language Y may be several lines) would I have to write an expression evaluator or something else to get it to work and the final user don't see the generated code while debugging?

    Any suggestions are welcome.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Hi Gabriel,

While I'm not a DE guru, but I'm fairly certain that is indeed the case. VB and C# compile down to IL, and when you debug that code, you've got the VB and C# EE's which allow you to step through the source and view variables in the appropriate language.
