Azcopy usage for Blob store with hierarchical namespace RRS feed

  • Question

  • hello ,

It seems azcopy usage currently is only with blob store and not with hierarchical namespace.

But microsoft docs for azcopy(v10) shows it does.

can someone give some working samples for the azcopy(v10) usage for hierarchical namespace ?

  • Just for clarification, As I understand you are looking for the below mentioned example, If I wrong, please correct me?

    Create a container

Example (hierarchical namespace)  azcopy make https://mystorageaccount.dfs.core.windows.net/mycontainer

    Upload files

Example (hierarchical namespace)  azcopy copy "C:\myDirectory\myTextFile.txt" https://mystorageaccount.dfs.core.windows.net/mycontainer/myTextFile.txt

    Upload a directory

Example (hierarchical namespace)  azcopy copy "C:\myDirectory" "https://mystorageaccount.dfs.core.windows.net/mycontainer" –recursive

    Download a file

Example (hierarchical namespace)  azcopy copy "https://mystorageaccount.dfs.core.windows.net/mycontainer/myTextFile.txt" "C:\myDirectory\myTextFile.txt"

    Download a directory

Example (hierarchical namespace)  azcopy copy "https://mystorageaccount.dfs.core.windows.net/mycontainer/myBlobDirectory "C:\myDirectory" –recursive

Download the contents of a directory

You can download the contents of a directory without copying the containing directory itself by using the wildcard symbol (*).

Note: Currently, this scenario is supported only for accounts that don't have a hierarchical namespace.

    Copy blobs between storage accounts

You can use AzCopy to copy blobs to other storage accounts. The copy operation is synchronous so when the command returns, that indicates that all files have been copied.

Note: Currently, this scenario is supported only for accounts that don't have a hierarchical namespace.

You don't have to enable this setting if you've enabled a hierarchical namespace on your storage account. That's because Storage Explorer automatically uses AzCopy on storage accounts that have a hierarchical namespace.

Provide authorization credentials: Blob storage (hierarchial namespace) currently supported method of authorization  Azure AD & SAS

    Hope this helps!
