Also I see now that the same moderator makes suggestions in this forum to look in the C# forum (while I had given the same answer, Bonnie does not know more from ADO.Net than me and that she will for sure admit, I don't say I know more).

  • Hi Cor,

One thing I would like to have is the ability for moderators to communicate with each other about issues such as this which we currently don't have. I do agree with you on this topic that even if C# post might be helpful, this is a vb.net forum and there are some who don't want to touch or convert C# to vb.net.

Please remember to mark the replies as answers if they help and unmark them if they provide no help, this will help others who are looking for solutions to the same or similar problem. Contact via my Twitter (Karen Payne) or Facebook (Karen Payne) via my MSDN profile but will not answer coding question on either.

  • Hi Karen,

I was even forgotten the word because it is for years not anymore the case and you probably have even never seen that.

In past there were endless flame wars between the VB and C# groups.

We should avoid in every way that it shows up again.

Beside that moderation has to be done very carefully before it is moved to Off Topic. If somebody writes.

I want to use the same way of code as in classic VB in a VB.Net program, the topic should not be moved to Off Topic.

     https://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/8f5cace1-6105-4a3d-9cc5-7d141542cbd4/control-form-from-vbs?forum=Offtopic

My reply was meant to tell the OP in a post back that he could show his current code, even if it was a kind of Pseudo.

I now know why persons don't do that anymore, they go direct to Off Topic.

  • Cor and all,

There is a way of looking at life that I rephrase in my own way:

       Accept As Is.

       Then, tell your feelings.

I guess you are doing that here. But, I dont see why you cant just reply to the post/person you have feelings about? Not a flame war. Just one states their feelings. Then stop and listen to the other persons feelings, and accept as is.

When its is done with feeling and courtesy most will listen, some will adapt. If not then there is nothing else to say.

    :)

PS Its real hard to express feelings in email or forum posts without misunderstanding so lots of :) are required. Especially when we have different first languages.

Finally I am not saying I am good at it. But I think its a good way.

LOL, like how come every word in this post is underlined in red by the editor as I type??

  • Tommy,

I don't know how your experience with flame wars, but mostly they are off topic and persons come in who only want to spread fuel on it.

I'm a while active in the Microsoft communities. Another one who has long experience about this is Paul Clement. I've seen people telling things about him where the truth was completely the opposite of it.

As a flame war starts it goes on and on and on.

    Cor,

    I see, sort of.

Well, I am mostly talking about my own feelings. And a way to deal with them.

If we Accept things as they are first, then we can tell our feelings without using anger.

    Anger never helps anything.

    :)

PS We use anger to try to change our partner's (behavior). But it does not work.

(A better way is to Accept our partner the way they are. Then tell our feelings).

PSS I believe it was Buddha that said these things.

    Hi Cor,

I'm thinking of a boykott from my side for a couple of months, if this behaviour doesnt change. You guide a user - maybe over days -  to the correct solution and a moderator jumps in, posts some code and marks or proposes his post as answer.

here a moderator jumps in 6 days after a reasonable suggestion which could answer the thread and gets the answer by another moderator...

    https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/a92dd4fc-2fda-481b-a6b3-a1712d8ba3b2/mdi-forms-opening-a-child-form-from-another-form-which-is-not-a-child-form?forum=winforms

Here at least is an example of a moderator marking the post of another moderator as answer, even if other posts also are proposed and are covering more the topic than the post marked as answer...

    https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/2e993521-1e29-4fc7-97e2-c1e4d628482d/parsing-data-from-tiffrational-object?forum=csharpgeneral

here also a moderator posts something that doesnt cover the topic at all and gets the answer by a moderator...

    https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/2ae4544a-8c85-4cda-971d-8b239d371f31/registering-filetype-associations-from-within-my-c-program?forum=csharpgeneral

here a moderator should have taken some action and didnt:

    [...]

I havent got more time now, so I stop here, but others have noticed the same issue, read the following posts.

Thorsten, are you seeing this behavior in other forums or even in this one?  I haven't noticed it here, but I'm not on every day.

If you have examples and want to email me some links I will escalate the issue.

    Hi,

I saw this in the c# and wpf forums some weeks or months ago. Not often. I'll look for examples and I will post links to the threads right here when I find something.

    Hi,

What I found is a lot of self-proposing (as answer) of the moderators. Maybe I should post links to these threads? But you can just go to the profiles of the moderators and look up the activity to find examples...

I havent found a concrete example yet, I only remember me being upset a whle ago, but as long as I cant find the proof ignore my above statement, I'll edit it and I'll post a link, when it happens again...

I've been the victim of Microsoft moderators where they will provide a solution that is pretty much what I suggested in a code sample. I refrain from calling them out on this as it only dirties the original post.

There are times when these moderators will propose their reply as the correct answer be it the correct answer or not it's simply rude. Since I've been here for nine years have never proposed my reply as the correct response and believe this is how it should be.

Please remember to mark the replies as answers if they help and unmark them if they provide no help, this will help others who are looking for solutions to the same or similar problem. • As long as we are complaining I may as well add my 2 cents / wish list.

I simply wish this forum was responsive so I could stop wondering if it was built in the late 90's. The threading leaves much to be desired also and the redundant duplicated posts on accepted answer is a waste of pixels, bits, and scroll time.

Other than that, I think you're all awesome people, and I am happy you're all here, even Cor. :)
