Netmon driver installation RRS feed

  • Question

  • Good morning.

Is it posible to install the network monitor driver as a standalone module?

I tried extracting the .sys and .inf from installation package but driver shows up as unsigned.

    Thankyou.

  • Hello sergihl,

nm3.sys was last signed in 2010 (almost ten years ago now). The signature is valid for all time, but the requirements for digitally signed driver signatures are frequently made more stringent. I think that the signature of nm3.sys is still adequate for the latest versions of Windows, but it would take a bit of effort to verify that.

You could try installing the full Network Monitor 3.4 package - if that fails due to a driver signature problem then you would know that there is no hope of installing the driver standalone.

As MotoX80 has pointed out, there is an out-of-the-box driver (ndiscap.sys) that has many of the same capabilities as nm3.sys (including (limited) driver filtering of packets) and npcap/winpcap  drivers can be installed and used too.
