how to encrypt word document in minifilter? RRS feed

Answers

  • If you have written your mini-filter correctly it does not care what the file is.  The challenges of encryption are the caching, the size changes in the file for good encryption, and the really nasty situation of some processes being allowed to decrypt and others not.

  • Unfortunately, you are asking one of the most complex problems in Windows.  Head over to http://www.osronline.com and join the NTFSD group and look at the archive for discussions on encryption.  The folks that host the site, have a toolkit for this problem that they charge a large amount for, it actually is worth it.

  • What is the larger problem that you're trying to solve? As Don points out, this is one of the most complex problems in Windows

  • No, you don't have to give up.  Go to http://www.osronline.com and join NTFSD, then look at the archives and ask questions there.  Also, assume this is at least a year full time work.
