How to edit the SPD workflow, with many items using the workflow ?? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I have SPD 2007 workflow(MOSS 2007)  with collect data from user action. Also have many items using the workflow correctly.

Now I want to add one more collect data from user action.

So wanted to know if I can directly edit the workflow i mean does it affects the existing list items.

Or all the existing and new items will use the the new version of the workflow ?

    Pls suggest !!!

    Thanks,

    Parag

  • The updated workflow will not be applied to the items that have completed it's workflow already. You'll need to manually start the workflow on those items, if you've enabled that option. So, basically all new items will use the new version automatically.

Not quite sure how it'll react for the workflow that are in progress already using the current/old version. I believe they'll also be using the current/old version that started the workflow. Everytime you update your workflow, it creates a new version.

Here's an article from Microsoft's Office site that talks about changing workflow settings that are in progress already, but these applies to Out of the box workflows available.

  • Hi Parag,

This is SP 2010 forum and your question is related to MOSS 2007 so i am moving this thread to SharePoint legacy version.

    >I wonder  if anybody had really read this thread and can suggest me

As you have started new discussion instead of question so very few people notice the discussion and rarely reply because they don't get any credit while answering. I am also going to change the thread type because it seems question / Issue so if you want to keep it as discussion then you can again change the thread type again.

    Thanks.
