Internal DNS Prompting Users for Permission RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

This is a very odd thing that started happening to a couple of my users.

When they access the share drive by using "\\example" they are prompted with credentials

But if they access it by ip "10.0.0.7" it works fine.

However, since their printers are mapped by dns name, it's giving invalid permission errors.

I want to try un-joining and re-joining the domain, but any other suggestions?

  • Sure, I will, but I don't remember seeing anything about permissions or anything? And I haven't changed anything recently. This is only happening to 2 out of 40 users so far.

  • Run ipconfig /flushdns, ipconfig /registerdns on the server hosting the shares/printers.

Check event viewer for detailed errors.

This issue may also occur because of a corrupted registry entry in the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters
One of more of the following registry entries in this registry subkey may be corrupted:
    • Domain
    • Hostname
    • NV Domain
    • NV Hostname

Ensure these are correct on the remote server.
