Performance in processing SSAS cubes with AMO objects RRS feed

  • Question

  • Good day!

We're using a .NET web service to process multidimensional cubes, partitions and dimensions in SSAS. We've been measuring the performance between the web service and direct processing in Management Studio and the difference is quite large (a 5 row dimension in SSMS takes 0 seconds and in the web service takes 10 seconds, just the dimension processing, not the web service as a whole). At first the processing was in sequential mode: run each dimension until it ended and, finally the cube.

We tried changing the dimensions processing to parallel with the "Parallel" class and "ForEach" method and the "ThreadPool" class and "QueueUserWorkItem" method, but instead of going down, the time went from 50-60 seconds to 600-700 seconds just one 5 row dimension.

¿Is there any other way to improve the processing performance using AMO objects? The web service is in the same SSAS server, so we discarded network issues.

    Regards,

  • Hi dany_floresp,

    Thank you for posting here.

For your question is more related to web service, you could post a new thread in WCF, ASMX and other Web Services forum for suitable support.
