How do combine the Kinect SDK and 3D Software for Motion Capture RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • I want to record my body' animation and import the keyframe data into 3D Software. Like 3d Max、MotionBuilder、Maya.

I prefers 3ds Max. Does sombody know how to use kinect SDK to combine with 3ds Max? Use like a real-time motion capture or offline motion capture?

  • This is an excellent resource as well.

Click the link in the upper left hand corner that says iPiSoft Video Wall.

It will show you all kinds of information regarding body tracking motions via Kinect and iPiSoft Studio Mocap Express.

  • Hi,

To Use Truebones BVH in MAX, You need a .MNM Marker file to load the BVH into your MAX biped /

Let me know if you need this file?

    Thanks and Cheers

  • My method is use Kinect Application to generate 3ds Max Script and assign to the biped.

But my method can not be used in real-time.

  • Ipi is great and can use 2 kinects but is not "real time" mocap.

And the rendering take ages. Not free too.

    ----------

    http://mocap.cguse.com/en/

Work in real time in 3d studio max but cost more than 700 $USD.

Result seems not bad from the last youtube video  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=omm7Hya1uGY; .

    ----------

"Using Processing, Midi Yoke, Ableton Live and 3D Studio Max Motion Capture Controller, I was able to transmit movement from the WiiChuck to 3D Studio Max via MIDI... May not be useful ^^
    More infos here : play-collective.net/blog/archives/61"

    source : http://vimeo.com/1295143

It's for the wii but could maybe work with kinects skeleton bones...

    http://www.cgchannel.com/2012/02/stream-kinect-mocap-data-into-blender-with-ni-mate/

    http://www.ni-mate.com/

http://www.ni-mate.com/use/blender/  for Blender but could maybe be adapted to 3d studio. I see that when i try to open Motion cature (Utilities Tab > Motion Capture) i get "Error: Could not open MIDI device" and NI Mate support MIDI.

    ----------

http://www.brekel.com and Motion Builder then clean the animation in mobu and send to max.

    ----------

I tryed Iclone 5 Pro + Mocap device plugin

the result was nice but couldn't export as i don't have the 3DXchange extention

    iclone 5 PRO + Mocap device plugin + 3DXchange PRO = 400 $USD

    ----------

I didn't try Akira method yet but the result don't look that nice from the youtube videos i saw.

I wish there was smoothing and maybe more bones tracked (if i remember well microsoft SDK support more bones) and maybe a foot contact controller with the floor.

I actually try but didn't succed (need to read the doc)

Well i hope the few links i gave will help people to find their pipeline. And maybe will help me find mine.
