Is there another solution beside biztalk for EDI? RRS feed

Answers

  • Yes, but...

The EDI platform world is quite bifurcated these days with "EDI Translators" on the low end and EDI Modules for ERP system on the high end.  The former being very cheap, but offering very little in actual integration or process flow capabilities.  The latter offer direct integration with your ERP, but are very expensive and difficult (relatively) to program and customize.

For general purpose EDI solution, the only significant competitor to BizTalk Server is.....Azure Integration Services, specifically Integration Accounts and Logic Apps.

We all still love BizTalk, but at this point, Azure is the best choice for EDI apps, including simple EDI Translators due to it's low incremental cost no infrastructure requirement.

  • From what we have at the moment there is three trading partners where we will be using x12 as the format. Document will be mostly 810, 850, 852, and 856. There is the occasional 820.

In house the language of choice is Java.

Other than that I am not sure.
