Issues with .Net Framework - 4.6.1 Not Installing Correct/Is Not Useable RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've been having a problem with .Net Framework, which I need in order to make use of a program called Nexus Mod Manager.

It requires the most recent version of .Net Framework, however, even after making use of the Web and Offline Installer for 4.6.1, it says I still only have 4.5.2.  I'm not sure what the problem is, but the registry and Windows Feature says that I have only 4.5.2, yet when I check updates and downloads, the code for 4.6.1 is present and shows the download and installation was complete.

What do I do to fix this?

  • Please use the .NET Framework Verification Tool to see which .NET versions are actually installed on your system:

    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2008/10/13/8999004.aspx

Run the tool with the latest available .NET version selected, then post the first 25 lines AND the LAST 25 lines of the tool log here.

  • Hello!

Sorry for the late reply, but I'll see about trying the Installer again - although I don't know if I'll have a repair option since I've tried the Web and Offline installer multiple times.

And my OS is actually 8.1 - I swapped between it and 10 two times honestly.

By the way, would it be worth sticking with Windows 10 - and would it change the .Net Framework to 4.6.1?  I figured I'd ask at least, just in case nothing else works.

Latest version that I could choose with the Verification Tool was 4.5.2.

Okay... So, I tried I tried the Web Installer again - though it did NOT have an option to Repair.  Same results as before - no change to the .Net Framework because Nexus Mod Manager won't work still, since it requires the most recent version of .Net Framework (4.6.1).

  • Hi my friend,

If you use .NET Framework Setup Verification Tool and find there is anything wrong with .NET Framework, you may use Microsoft .NET Framework Repair Tool to do a repair,
This tool detects and tries to fix some frequently occurring issues with the setup of Microsoft .NET Framework or with updates to the Microsoft .NET Framework.
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30135

Besides, you could try using a standalone installer to install .NET Framework 4.6.1 You can get the  Installer from following link:

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=49981

Neither of these methods are of any help.  The Repair tool did not help, and I have already mentioned I used both standalone installers - the Web and Offline Installers - yet they do not work.

  • ok, uninstall your versions, run CCleaner to clear your PC and install again your versions, first lower versions, then higher.

I tried going to the Uninstall Programs section of my Control Panel, but I see none of the .Net Framework versions listed...

Also, is it even safe to uninstall .Net Framework?

  • Hi my friend,

There are many software and application running based on .Net Framework, from my point of view, it's unsafe to uninstall it.

  • Then what should I do...?

My list of installed updates has the code for 4.6.1 of the .Net Framework, however my registry says I only have 4.5.2.   I'm not sure  how to update the .Net Framework in this case because the installers have done nothing - and if it really is unsafe to uninstall the Framework, I'm at a loss of what to do.

The only thing I can think of is, assuming .Net Framework would update to 4.6.1 if I switch for the third time back to Windows 10 as my OS, from my current 8.1 (AGAIN - keep in mind I have swapped two times between 8.1 and 10 already), but if that doesn't work... I'm at a loss.

Please... is there ANYTHING that can be done..?

  • Hello,

pls look at that your listing, there isn't version 4.6 installed, also you don't have SPs installed to 4.5 and 4.0. So first start install Service Packs to .NET 4.0 to 4.5. This is probably needed. Then try install that 4.6 what isn't installed on your system. Use links provided by Lana.

Forgive me, but there are service packs for 4.0 and 4.5?  I might have to look later when I'm not tired, but can anyone confirm if there are service packs for either.  My computer naturally came with 4.5.2 - it's confusing why it won't update to 4.6.1 though - or why there aren't service packs for 4.5.2 or 4.0 on it already (assuming there are service packs for either 4.0 or 4.5).

  • Yes, I also will look to this. Another trick you can try, because your needed SW is open source application. Try find some application that install primary some .NET framework automatically with instalation. It's up to you what you'll find. This can be right answer if your system can be updated to some version :)

  • So... I think I'm either missing something important or it could be something wrong with the installation process in some way.

I used the verification tool a number of times to double check some things, and it gives me the following options to verify (all of which were marked as successfully verified/no issues by the way):  .Net Framework 2.0 SP 2, 3.0 SP2, 3.5 SP1, 4 Client, 4 Full, 4.5, 4.5.1, and 4.5.2.

And all the listed items that involve what was installed and what wasn't according to the most recent verification:
