PowerPivot CTP3 - Initialization of the data source failed RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I installed Office 2010 beta and PowerPivot Excel Add-in. When I click on PowerPivot window, I'm getting the following error:

    1st Error:
Initialization of the data source failed.

Check the database server or contact your database administrator. Make sure the external database is available, and then try the operation again. If you see this message again, create a new data source to connect to the database.

    2nd Error message:

Unable to load the Gemini in-memory server. Reason: there was a COM exception while loading. Please click 'Details' button for more details.

I repaird the PowerPivot add-in and uninstall/reinstall but got the same issue.

  • Ayad,  I've asked CSS to open a support request for you since this is blocking your TAP project.     I'm certain they will contact your shortly.

  • Hi Ayad,

I have few questions for you.

    1) Are you using Office Beta 2?
    2) Did you had CTP2 of PowerPivot on the box?

Here are the steps I will try,
    1) If you are using Office Beta 1, un-install that
    2) Un-install PowerPivot add-in
    3) Delete the folder, Program files\Microsoft Analysis Services
    4) Reboot the box
    5) Install Office Beta2
    6) Install Power Pivot add-in.

    Thanks,
    Deva [MSFT]
