  • Hi Ardmore,

The thread you referenced is correct. When you pass exams 70-480 and 70-483 you'll receive neither an MCTS nor an MCPD certification. Microsoft is very specific about its certifications, and they are not interchangeable.

Pass exam 70-480 and you will receive the Programming in HTML5 with JavaScript and CSS3 Specialist certification. Pass exam 70-483 and you will receive the Programming in C# Specialist certification.

BTW, the MCPD (Microsoft Certified Professional Developer) certification is being discontinued for these new exams and replaced with the MCSD (Microsoft Certified Solutions Developer) certification.

Exams 70-480 and 70-483 taken together don't confer any additional certifications beyond Specialist. Furthermore, these exams belong to different certification streams: one for HTML5 (70-480) and one for C# (70-483), so they are unlikely to be taken together if a single MCSD certification is the goal.

For example, if you pass exam 70-480 along with 70-481 and 70-482, you will receive the MCSD: Windows Store Apps Using HTML5 certification. If you pass 70-483 along with 70-484 and 70-485, you will receive the MCSD: Windows Store Apps Using C# certification.

Additionally, if you pass 70-480 along with 70-486 and 70-487, you will receive the MCSD: Web Applications certification.

What I'm trying to say is this. If MCSD certification is your goal, then determine if your strength is in HTML5 or C# development, and choose your certification stream based on that strength rather than trying to straddle two streams. It's much easier to earn a single MCSD certification at a time.

I hope this information proves useful to you, and I wish you every success on your certification journey.

  • According to Microsoft, the above answer is either incorrect or out of date. It is possible that I am  misinterpreting the information provided, although it seems fairly clear-cut and dry.

    The site displays the following:

Earn a Microsoft Specialist: Visual Studio certification

                    Step

    Title

    Optional training

    Required exam

                  1

Programming in HTML5 with JavaScript and CSS3

                  2

    Programming in C#

  • The answer is correct.  You do not earn the MCTS or MCPD title when you pass these exams.

70-483 counts as a credit towards the MCSD: Windows Store Apps using C# certification while 70-480 counts as a credit towards the MCSD: Web Applications and MCSD: Windows Store Apps using HTML5 certifications

  • According to https://www.microsoft.com/learning/en-gb/mcsd-web-apps-certification.aspx

(if you expand "additional options") You can substitute Exam 483 for Exam 480

So if you pass 70-483 along with 70-486 and 70-487, you will receive the  MCSD: Web Applications certification.
