Concurrent support for RNDIS over USB and Serial over USB RRS feed

  • Question

  • Gentlemen,

Would like to know if I can have concurrent support in my BSP for RNDIS over USB and Serial over USB. My goal here is to be able to plug in a FTDI USB to Serial adapter and have an additional COM port for debugging as well as keeping the ActiveSync functionality give through RNDIS.

  • I don't see any reason that you couldn't - assuming that you have both a USB Host controller and a USB function controller - that is not an OTG controller only.  Do you have a problem?

  • It appears that serialusbfn.dll is missing from the build image. I plug in the FTDI driver and it crashes with a udevice.exe error. Registry entries for \USB\FunctionDrivers\Serial_Class are there as well as the \USB\LoadClients for the VID and PID  but no serialusbfn.dll

  • serialusbfn.dll has nothing to do with this, it is a USB Function Client driver.  Your FTDI driver is a USB Host Class driver.  See http://geekswithblogs.net/BruceEitman/archive/2009/04/08/windows-ce-usb-basics.aspx

  • Thanks Bruce. I'm assuming then that serialusbfn.dll is not needed in order to get an FTDI USB to Serial device to work.

  • Isn't that what I just wrote?  To get the FTDI device to work, you need the driver from FTDI - if you don't already have it go to http://www.ftdichip.com/FTDrivers.htm
