Azure Fault Domain Node Resiliency RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm curious about the resiliency of the underlying server hardware that the VM host is running on in the fault domain.  If one of the processors in the blade fails, would that take down my VM host and node?

  • Hi,

    Thanks for posting here.

You cannot control the number of fault domains your distributed across. You can use RoleInstance.FaultDomain to view the fault domain an instance is in. You should really treat this as an infrastructure issue rather than a service issue - particualrly as you have no control over it.

It would try to service heal the node by itself, if it cannot service heal the node, it will move the node to another fault domain node,  marking the existing one for human investigation.

A good explanation about fault domains here http://blog.toddysm.com/2010/04/upgrade-domains-and-fault-domains-in-windows-azure.html

    Hope this helps.
