Project Pro 2007: cannot remove "compare project versions" RRS feed

  • Question

  • In a not too distant history, the AddIn "Compare Project Versions" was installed and the command bar button was added to a custom toolbar.

Now, we would like to delete this button, but nothing seems to work. First we thought doing Customize and drag the button away.

Tried local (Application Data), Global.MPT and Checked Out Enterprise Global stuff, nothing seems to do the trick.

  • winnes,

Not sure what to tell you. I just tried removing the add-in from my installation of Project Pro 2007 and it gets rid of it without issue. I did of course remove the add-in and then closed out of Project. When I opened it back up, the add-in was gone. I then put it back in through the COM add-Ins window.

Do you have the latest update (SP3) installed for Project 2007? If not go to, http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/office/ee748587. Ignore the "guidance" about the updates being for Project Server. They apply to all versions of Project.

If your installation is fully up to date and you still can't delete the add-in, is there a driving reason why you can't just ignore it? It has functional issues anyway (maybe that's why you want to delete it). Fortunately, the Project developers fixed that add-in in Project 2010.

  • Hi Winnes--

Did you try removing with registry. First, you'll need to open the registry editor from run "regedit"and drill down to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\MS Project\Addins.  Select "CompProjVers.dsrCompVers12"ish to uninstall and delete it. You will, of course, need to restart MS project for the change to take place.

    Hope that helps.

  • Hi John and Amit,

We indeed have SP3 installed, utility is no longer in use.
Registry edit is blocked by IT, but utility can be ignored, yes.
Something went wrong when uninstalling the Addin, but nothing blocking this way.

Solution will be : create new custom toolbar, with all needed (custom buttons), no "compare project versions" anymore...
    "Compare project versions" toolbar invisible...

  • winnes,

Go to COM Add-ins... which should be the last item in the menu bar. If not, you may need to add it via menu customization. Then in the COM Add-Ins window select the Compare Project Versions add-in and hit "Remove".

    Hope this helps.
