  • Question

  • How is the search function supposed to work? I have a published app called 'duo french'.

Question 1: If I type 'french' in the search box, the dropdown lists 4 apps that contain the word french but not my app. How are the listed apps selected?

Question 2: I have the following key words: french, dictionary, phrase book, learn, translation. Except for the single word 'french', search results never include my app. Neither do multiple word searches, eg 'learn french'. How are app key words supposed to be used by the marketplace search function?

  • Your app is now showing in the search. Please be aware that it takes up to 48 hours for the meta-data to sync into all of the distributed markets. So it's likely that you will be able to find your app by deep-link prior to discovering it by search.

  • Did you recently add those new keywords? There's usually a 3-7 business day delay between when you make a change, and it appears in the marketplace.

In their Canadian marketplace when I search for "french" about 30 results come up, but no "duo french". But if I search for "duo french" I get 1 result for an app named that that's $4.49.

  • I did recently add the keywords but I also changed the description and the new one has been updated on the site so it seems to be up-to-date.

  • There's some lagging or bug in their search.

After our app Trekstir Lite Children's Books) appeared on market when I searched for  the work Trekstir for couple days it would show up randomly in the list but know it shows up consistently.

Although the app doesn't show up in the search results if I search for a keyword I entered.

I entered keywords 'kids' and 'fun' but our app does not show up in the search results.

Check out our app - Trekstir Lite Children's Books - with unique and original stories.

    1. The apps listed in the drop-down are based off of recent popularity.

    2. The web and mobile Marketplaces limit the return on keyword search results. Therefore, it's possible that a new publication with common keywords will not show in the results. Though, this is all relative to the keyword, category, and region.

  • I've got a little question, quite related.

I've got an app, certificated and published since yesterday, but it's not present in the marketplace (using search AND using direct link from the dashboard). How much time does it take to be in the marketplace ?

    direct link :

  • I'd like to add the same question - my app was approved and published yesterday 24 hours ago, but still isn't appearing in the marketplace either by search or direct link:

On another note, make sure you get your Marketplace Description correct. My marketplace description wasn't formatted correctly, so I have updated it. I did not recompile any code, and did not upload any new XAP - the only thing I changed was the Marketplace Description. It transipires that the updated description text means that the App has to go through the entire certification process - again!! Even though *nothing* has changed in the binary XAPs - the certification team will be testing exactly the same app over again. That's crazy!

  • I already saw this problem of revalidation of the marketplace description. It's the same if you change a screenshot. Maybe it will take less time than if you updated the xap ?

Unfortunately not it would seem. I have already raised a support ticket querying the need for a full certification when I didn't upload or change the already certified XAP, and received a response stating that even though only the marketplace description has changed, the app app will go through a FULL certification process again.

It would certainly help Microsoft's certification queue times if they weren't recertifying XAPS that have already been through the process.

  • OK, it's a huge waste of time so.

Microsoft should work on the validation process to avoid things like that...

A team should work on "only description modifications", no app test so quicker validation !

It's been about 36 hours now since my app was published, and the direct link now works:

The search function still doesn't work yet, hopefully it will soon:

I still have to wait for full re-certification just to update the mangled marketplace description too, oh well ...

Thanks Danny, I can now confirm that I Buzzed First! is now showing in the search results, and is also available by deep link. I have had email correspondance with support, who also stated that full search / linking can take up to 48 hours, which is how long it did take in this case.

    Regards,

    Nick Talbot
