Set focus on Word backstage tab RRS feed

  • Question

  • In Word 2010's backstage area, I have renamed the NEW tab to NATIVE NEW and added a custom tab called TEMPLATES.  When the user presses the File backstage tab, I want TEMPLATES to have focus, not Word's native New tab.  How can I accomplish this?

    Thank you.

  • Hi orlandp

I'm afraid there's nothing in the API or Ribbon that lets you accomplish this.

Closest you can get would be to assign a keytip to the Tab, hope it's not a keytip something else uses, then use a macro with SendKeys to open the File menu and select it (mimicking Alt+F, [your keytip]). You could also try running SendKeys from the onShow callback for the backstage element in the RIbbon XML, but I don't no whether it would work - you'd have to test.
