Bing Maps 8 Custom Pins (SVG) not working in IE Edge RRS feed

  • Question

  • Implemented the custom pins with SVGs and they render correctly in Firefox, Chrome and Safari, but not in IE Edge / Internet Explorer. Just see the default purple pins with the circle around them.

How can I find out what the issue is in Edge?

  • Ensure that your SVG includes the namespace in it. For example:

    <svg xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg" >...<svg>

This is a requirement in some browsers.

Also try your application against the experimental branch to see if that works as there has been many updates around SVG pushpins. You can do this by adding &branch=experimental to the map script URL.

Also verify that this sample works for you: http://www.bing.com/api/maps/sdk/mapcontrol/isdk#createPushpinFromSvg+JS

  • Thanks...

It was a combination of nested SVG (pin outline and inner icon) with use of elem.outerHTML which doesn't seem to work in IE Edge (altho does in other browsers) causing the issue, and then the map control using the default pin instead.
