    Hi Guys

    Probably a really simple answer but my brain is starting to hurt...

    Never had a problem previewing pages in browser (Firefox or IE) before but today it says it has a page load error (see below).

    MS Vista, VWD 2008, localhost:49289.

    Please let me know what other info you need to suggest an explanation...

    Cheers

    Ok I think ive got it:

    Not been running it as administrator!

    For those still having a problem:

    Create a shortcut on your desktop (right click, new, shortcut). Enter this as the target:

    C:\WINDOWS\NOTEPAD.EXE C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\etc\HOSTS

    After creating the shortcut right click it, properties, advanced, run as administrator.

    Then open the shortcut and put a "#" in front of the line "::1     LocalHost" to make "#::1     LocalHost"

    click save and voila! Works for me...

     Do you see the development web server instance displayed on your taskbar?  If not, the development web server may not be spinning up.

     Hi, thanks for your interest...

    Yes, it loads up but the strange thing is when I close FF/IE it doesnt close like it used to...

    I tried adding the localhost to myantivirus (AVG) and WindowsFirewall but it doesnt do anything. I have User Accounts on in Windows but that should make a difference as it hasnt done before.

    Thanks

     Sorry, where do i find that?

    Commented out the line

    ::1          LocalHost

    with a # in the hosts file and it now works.

    Question is, where did that suddenly come from, has a Microsoft update done it?

    Is it in:

    %SystemRoot%\System32\drivers\etc\hosts

     ?

     Do i just remove the line:

    ::1             localhost

    What else should I do here?

    Hi Guys - I had exactly the same problem starting yesterday - I tried your solution but couldn't save the host file (I had two files on my system) - got the old 'Permission Denied' message.  The solution (in my case). I noticed that an app_offline.htm file had mysteriously appeared in my project directory. Deleting this file solved the problem. No idea how it got there.

    Hope that helps

    P.S. Althought the app_offline.htm file was only in one project directory it stopped all other projects connecting to the browser..........
