use Visual sourcesafe Analyze error RRS feed

  • Question

  • We do the VSS Sourcesafe Analyze every week. I have not seen this problem before:

Analyze Visual SourceSafe Version 6.0c (Build 9604)
    Database analysis in progress @  8/17/10; 6:30a.
    Building the project list.
Writing a new copy of '\\hps-bc35-vs05to\sourcesafe\misc_development\hact_vss\data\q\qaabaaaa'.
    Checking cross file relationships.
    Checking parent/child relationships.
Removing unused items from the database.
    Started analyzing user management system.
Successfully completed analyzing the user management system.
    Validating the Security System.
    File or project not found
    Analysis complete @  8/17/10; 7:06a
Potentially serious errors or inconsistencies were found.

I wonder if you saw this problem before and how I can resolved it.

I did restore Aug, 16, 17 and 10 has same message and Aug 9 analyze is OK, developer still check in files in that database, there are a lot of files change.

I wonder if you can help me to fix this problem or

Is any easy way to get latest files and put in the database with Aug 9 then do analyse to see if it is good.

We use VSS 6.0 also VSS 2005 computer is 2003 Server client is Win XP sp2 or 3.

    Thanks,

    Jean

  • Hi Nancy and Chao,

I have tried to use Analyze.exe -V4 <VSS Data Path>, the result is no problem.

Then I talked with Grant who is support from Microsoft.

He provide a tool VSSMS. i install and purge all the deleted files and projects.

Then I did analyze again, the Result is OK.

    Thank you very much!

  • Hello, Jean

The error may caused by serious errors or inconsistencies in your database file. To fix this, please try to use Analyze tool.

    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual SourceSafe\analyze.exe" -F -V3 -D "YourVSSDataPath"

Please let me know whether it works.

    Thanks

    Chao

  • Hello Jean,

Have you tried the method Chao Kuo suggests? Does it work? We can use -F switch to automatically repair inconsistencies and corruption that are detected, as long as no users are logged in. If it does not work, please try following steps:

Step1:  Archive my VSS Database either by label or Date
    Step2:  Analyze.exe -V4 <VSS Data Path>
    Step3:  Analyze.exe -F -V4 <VSS Data Path>
    Step4:  Analyze.exe -F -V4 <VSS Data Path>

  • Hi Nancy, I'm having a similar VSS 6.0 problem.  Any idea where I can get the VSSMS tool JeanCao used to fix her problem?  I know it was a while ago - 2012.
