Windows is saying the file is too big when there is plenty of space

    Question

  • I have a 7.9GB .mkv file that I am trying to copy to a 32GB USB. The usb drive is completely empty. When I try to copy the file to the USB I get the file is too big to copy.

  • Hi,

    seems to be OT.

It says that the file is too large for the FileSystem of the device, so, presumably its formatted with a FAT filesystem where the limit is 4GB. A NTFS filesystem doesnt have this limit.

  • Hi Alan,

Thorsten just gave the answer, then before you copy the file make sure the driver is NTFS format.

    eg.

Finish the format, and copy your file. Nice and easy.

BTW: this forum is talking about Visual Studio IDE.

    Best regards,

    Fletch
