Filtering Distribution groups synchronization based on AD attributes. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I'm asking if it's possible to filter Distribution lists based on a AD attribute so Distribution list with a specific attribute (by a inbound filtering rule ) will not be synced to Azure AD (Office 365) without moving it to a no-synced OU ( OU filtering)?

Is there an example or documentation to do that?

It's supported by MS (DL filtering based on attribute)?

    I use Azure AD connect.

    Thanks

  • Sure it is possible; filtering groups (distribution lists) based on attributes can be done pretty much the same way as you would filter user objects based on attribute(s), you can do the filtering both inbound from OnPrem AD or outbound to Azure AD. Inbound you can create a scoping filter and not include the object in the sync at all, or create a transformation and set the CloudFiltered target attribute to true based on some other attribute value. The default rules already contain some filtering by the isCriticalSystemObject or adminDescription attributes, so you can look at those for examples, or look at the transformation for the CloudFiltered target attribute.

    Hope this helps...

  • Thank you  Kimmo,

it's worked, I created a simple rule as for user based on a AD Attribute and it worked.

    Thanks
