How to sort Tile By in Power View

  • I am using the version of Power View that shipped with SQL Server 2012 SP1.  I am using it in a SharePoint 2013 farm.

Is there a way to sort the entries that show up in the Tile By field?

In other words, if I Tile a column chart by dropping Year into the Tile By field, I would like to be able to choose whether the Tile control shows the years in ascending or descending sequence from left to right.

I can't find a way to make this happen.  Does anyone else have an idea?

My data source is a PowerPivot data model, so I have complete control over the data.  I've tried specifying that the Year column should be sorted in descending sequence in the data model, but that has no effect on the sort in the Tile By in Power View.   It always sorts on ascending numeric sequence.

  • I asked someone o the PowerView team this at the PASS BA conference earlier in the year.

He said it was not currently supported, but was a good idea to add to the improvement list.

  • Hi Jeff,

The tileby itself is not sortable.

However, when using my Month Description from my cube, I've sorted the Month Description by another column that controls its sorting and that seems to have filtered through to my Power View dashboard.

    Hope it makes sense.
