Change Power Pivot ODC connection file to point different database RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi everyone,

I have created an excel powerpivot using odc file, which is pointing to ABC database(example).

Now I want to change its connection string to point different database say XYZ database( it has same tables and structure of ABC database). I know we can do that by opening Powerpivot and editing connection string.

But is it possible change the underlying odc file itself, to point new odc file.

    Please suggest your ideas/links.

    Thanks,

    Madhu M

  • Hi Madhu,

According to your description, you connect to a database using ODC file in PowerPivot, now what you want is point it to another ODC file, right?

If that is the case, please refer to the following steps to use .odc file to import data to PowerPivot model:

    1. Click "Manage" button to open PowerPivot model dialog box.
    2. Click the "Existing Connections" button.
    3. Click "Browse for more" button to select your .odc file.
    4. Click "Open".

Then, please follow the "Table Import Wizard" to import data to PowerPivot model. For more information about data sources supported in PowerPivot Workbooks, please see the article below:
