after installing Visual Studio 2012 and Windows Embedded Compact 2013 I should

be able to create a project:

"In the New Project dialog box, select Platform Builder as the project type, and OS Design as the template. Click OK."

When I try to do this, there is no Platform Builder project type. Anyone have any ideas ?

  • What exactly did you install?  VS2012?

Did you install Platform Builder for Compact 2013?

    Where did you get this?

If I recall correctly, PB for WEC2013 originally required VS2010.  Then last fall, there was an update that included support for VS2013.

  • In visual studio, if you go to HELP>>About Microsoft Visual Studio you will see a list of installed products.

Scroll down this list to see if you have Platform Builder installed.

If you don't have Platform Builder, then something may have gone wrong with the installation, try installing it again.

If you do have Platform Builder, what version of Platform Builder do you have? Did you install both applications from disk? or did you download them?

If you can, I would suggest using platform builder with VS2013, I think that this is where most of Microsoft development/support is going at the moment. Also with VS2012 you can only build SDK for VS2012, with VS2013 you can only build SDK for VS2013, so you really need to consider what development tools you application devs/customers use.
