But there is no limitations between native mobile apps or mobile web apps for smartphones after the introduction of Phonegap, RhoMobile or Titanium mobile.

Moreover in Mobile web there is rich support for HTML5, CSS3 media queries with JQuery mobile/Sencha/JQTouch/DOJO/HTML boilerplate.

With ODATA WCF services you can use SQL Server/SQL Azure database or SharePoint 2010 data with smartphones native apps too.

Definitely you can build mobile native applications based on the smartphones platforms. You need to choose then the respective smartphones platform where you need to build the application viz. Android/BlackBerry/Windows Phone or iPhone.

If you are beginner in Windows Phone 7 application development, then better to start with Windows Phone 7.1 developer training kit samples. It has very good hands on along with documents with better project concept.

Later , can develop brilliant applications with Windows phone consuming data from Cloud (like Microsoft SQL Azure) or SharePoint 2010 services or advanced gaming with XNA as native apps.
