Unable to publish in visual studio 2015

    Question

  • Ever since installing Visual Studio 2015 Professional Update 3,

    https://www.visualstudio.com/en-us/news/releasenotes/vs2015-update3-vs

I am unable to publish to any target at all. I repeatedly get informed:

"Could not load file or assembly Microsoft.VisualStudio.ProjectSystem.DotNet.Internal - The system cannot find the file specified."

Has anyone experienced the same issue and managed to resolve it?

I have repaired Visual Studio: No Success

I have reinstalled Visual Studio after deleting all files according to

    https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/vstudio/en-US/435656ba-49df-4af4-b501-27b568fdeae1/unable-to-publish-to-any-target?forum=visualstudiogeneral

    instructions with no Success

I have ensured that all updates have been applied to Visual Studio: No Success

    Can someone please help me?

  • Hi Hans7788,

I checked you Activity Monitor log and find the following error information, please see:

Still unable to load MEF component DLL: Det går inte att läsa in filen eller sammansättningen Microsoft.VisualStudio.ProjectSystem.DotNet, Version=14.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a eller ett av dess beroenden. Det går inte att hitta filen.
              C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 14.0\Common7\IDE\Extensions\Microsoft\Web Tools\ProjectSystem\Microsoft.VisualStudio.ProjectSystem.DotNet.Web.dll

Extension will not be loaded because an extension with the same ID 'Microsoft.Windows.DevelopmentKit.WindowsStore' is already loaded at C:\PROGRAM FILES (X86)\COMMON FILES\MICROSOFT\EXTENSIONMANAGER\EXTENSIONS\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS KITS\8.1\WINDOWS STORE SDK\...
C:\PROGRAM FILES (X86)\COMMON FILES\MICROSOFT\EXTENSIONMANAGER\EXTENSIONS\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS KITS\8.0\METRO SDK\From the error message, there are two may problems: MEF component DLL failed to load and windows sdk 8.1 failed to load.

    1. please use .NET Framework Setup Verification Tool to check if the .NET Framework is ok.

If you find there is anything wrong with .NET Framework, you may use Microsoft .NET Framework Repair Tool to do a repair,

This tool detects and tries to fix some frequently occurring issues with the setup of Microsoft .NET Framework or with updates to the Microsoft .NET Framework.

  • Hi Hans7788,

    Thank you for your post.

I saw the thread you offered, did you follow Alex_Lee's advice to uninstall all azure related programs and reinstall azure SDK?

If you have both repaired and reinstalled VS but no work, please restart Windows and in safe mode, run devenv /safemode in Visual Studio 2015 Command Prompt.

If in safe mode this issue disappeared, the cause should be third-party applications, services or Visual Studio Add-ins.

If the error persists,  then you may try to running devenv.exe /log <log path> in Command Prompt, the log files will be generated in the <log path>.
Then you can check and analyze the log file to see if there are anything incorrect.

Besides, Please use http://aka.ms/vscollect   to gather the installation logs. After using it, you will find vslogs.zip from %temp% folder.
Please upload the file to https://onedrive.live.com/   and share the link with us.

    Best Regards,

  • The only thing I have installed is what can be selected in the visual studio 2015 installation. I haven't downloaded anything besides that. Or what do you mean I should remove?
